The Italian cyclist Sonny Colbrelli, second classified in the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya ending in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, had to receive a heart massage when crossing the finish line and was transferred to a hospital as soon as the race was over , according to sources in the organization.
Colbrelli, 31, has fainted after making an intense sprint uphill with Australian Michael Matthews, winner of the stage by a few meters.
The Italian rider from the Bahrain Victorious team was immediately treated by medical assistance and taken by ambulance to the nearest medical center.
Colbrelli arrived at the Volta carrying severe bronchitis.
