SV Werder Bremen won the top game on matchday 27 of the 2nd Bundesliga 1-0 against SV Darmstadt 98.

The game report of the DeichStube*.

Bremen – They will be talking about this day and this evening at

SV Werder Bremen

for a very, very long time.

Because with an emergency team - five (!) regular players were missing - Bremen defeated the leaders

SV Darmstadt 98

1-0 (0-0) and thus recorded a very important threesome in the promotion race of the 2nd league.

In terms of points, Werder caught up with the new leaders FC St. Pauli.

Niclas Füllkrug

scored the winning goal

in the 52nd minute after fine preliminary work by Eren Dinkci.

The guests were already outnumbered, Klaus Gjasula saw the red card in the 24th minute after video evidence of a foul on Romano Schmid.

Of course, that played into the hands of the hosts, but they also earned this special victory with a lot of passion and playful class.

Werder Bremen vs. SV Darmstadt 98: Red card as "crucial point of the game"

"Up to the red card it was an open exchange of blows.

Then we showed a mature performance with a young team.

I've had a different experience after a red card.

That's why we can be proud," explained goal scorer Füllkrug - and coach

Ole Werner

added: "I was most pleased that after a nervous start we showed more and more courage.

Great respect for what the young players have achieved in particular.” Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht, on the other hand, struggled with the dismissal: “It wasn't a red card for me.

As a professional, I often got kicked like that.

That was the crux of the game.”

SV Werder Bremen

had had a really bad week, almost every day after the

2-1 defeat in Heidenheim there was bad news in terms of personnel.

Due to injuries, Ömer Toprak, Marco Friedl and Mitchell Weiser signed off for several weeks.

On Thursday, Marvin Ducksch tested positive for Corona, followed on the day of the game by Leonardo Bittencourt, who immediately went into quarantine.

A quiet preparation is certainly different.

"It doesn't make things any easier if another mainstay fails," said coach

Ole Werner

before kick-off against

Darmstadt 98

at Sport1, but was emphatically combative: "There's no whining!

The greed is palpable in the cabin.

We want to show as a group that we can also overcome this resistance.” He let the young Eren Dinkci play in attack for Ducksch and Niklas Schmidt for Bittencourt in midfield.

And behind?

There, somewhat surprisingly, substitute captain Christian Groß took over the role of defense chief.

With him, Milos Veljkovic and Anthony Jung formed the back three, while Manuel Mbom and Felix Agu defended on the outside.

Nicolai Rapp von Groß took over the part of the six.

Werder Bremen against SV Darmstadt 98: Klaus Gjasula sees a red card early on

Almost inevitably after the many changes, Werder Bremen

lacked

security at the beginning.

The great support from the ranks didn't help at first.

The Ultras celebrated their return after the end of the Corona restrictions in the Wohninvest Weserstadion, which was sold out with 41,000 spectators except for the guest area, with a great choreography that was impressive.

On the other hand, the guests set the accents and the Bremen team put a lot of pressure on them.

Tim Skarke narrowly missed making it 1-0 with a concealed shot (8th).

The strong Darmstadt team then weakened themselves – in the person of

Klaus Gjasula

, who has been collecting yellow cards like other stamps for years.

Referee Robert Schröder immediately gave him a yellow card for his foul on Romano Schmid, it would have been the Albanian's twelfth warning in the 19th game of the season.

But the video assistant spoke up, sent the referee to the edge of the field – and according to the video images, Gjasula showed him

red

(24th).

Absolutely understandable, because the Darmstadt player had hit Schmid's knee with the open sole.

The game tipped over immediately, with the Bremen team now in the majority.

Niclas Füllkrug

should have made it 1-0 after a fine combination via Dinkci and Schmid, but failed because of keeper Marcel Schuhen (26th) - just like three minutes later after great preparatory work by Schmidt.

He, in turn, only hit the post shortly before the break (43rd).

And Agu forced shoes to make the next brilliant save (45th).

Werder Bremen

could have led after the first half, but was also a bit lucky at the back.

There were a few gaps, Mbom's bad passes, which often forced Werder into reverse, were particularly noticeable.

But Darmstadt's Marvin Mehlem messed up what was actually a highly dangerous counterattack (28') and Aaron Seydel (31') shot just over it.

Werder still had to be extremely careful against these snappy Hessen.

Werder Bremen against SV Darmstadt 98: Niclas Füllkrug scores after a fine cross from Eren Dinkci

It's always the best idea to play up front yourself.

And that's what the green-whites did after the change.

Schmid sent the fast Dinkci on his way.

And the 20-year-old cleverly prevailed against the experienced Jannik Müller (28) and crossed perfectly to Füllkrug, who coldly made it 1-0 (52nd).

His 14th goal of the season, a great

goal

!

The Weser Stadium trembled.

Füllkrug greeted his missing strike partner Ducksch with his typical goal celebration.

Who would have thought all this after the many failures?

Not much was expected from Dinkci after his weak performances in the past few weeks - and then such a strong action!

He would even have

98 himself against Darmstadt

can, maybe even have to, but decided alone in front of the goal for the short corner, which closed the shoes (63rd).

Werder Bremen

continued to determine the game with a majority.

Only Rapp was unable to take part after a long run, plagued by cramps, he left the field and was replaced by Ilia Gruev (74th).

Schmid had the preliminary decision on the foot, but only put the ball on the post (79th).

So had to keep shaking.

Especially because substitute Nick Woltemade tried a trick after a fine individual performance and failed.

A streaker on the lawn also extended the playing time.

But then it was over - and a green and white party began.

10:26 p.m .:

Werder with a deserved win against Darmstadt.

In the first half, Ole Werner's men were not callous enough in front of the opposing goal and in the second half they were too negligent on the offensive.

Niclas Füllkrug scored the winning goal after great preliminary work by Eren Dinkci.

As a result, Werder failed to make the result clearer.

With that, Werder closes the gap to leaders St. Pauli in the table.

90th + 4 minutes:

final whistle!

The game is over.

Werder gets a very important 1-0 home win against Darmstadt 98 and draws level with leaders St. Pauli.

For Darmstadt it is the first away defeat since September.

Darmstadt coach Lieberknecht throws his chair in the corner!

90. + 3 minutes:

Now a drunk Werder fan runs across the field...

90th + 2 minutes:

No, no, no!

Schönfelder plays on Woltemade, who beats two opponents in the penalty area.

But the conclusion is too half-hearted, the chip keeps shoes well.

90 minutes:

Oscar Schönfelder comes on for Niklas Schmidt.

There are three minutes of stoppage time!

88th minute:

Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht is now at 180 - cannot understand some of the decisions made by referee Schröder at all.

Football is played relatively little at the moment.

85 minutes:

Rarely stupid – some fool throws a cup onto the field and just misses ex-Bremer Tobi Kempe.

Let the nonsense be!

84 minutes:

Sobiech and Celic come on for Isherwood and Mehlem.

Shortly thereafter, Veljkovic sees his fourth yellow card after a duel with Honsak.

82 minutes:

Second Werder substitution -

Nick Woltemade comes on for Eren Dinkci.

81 minutes:

Werder are now slowly negligent.

Schmid and Dinkci run together towards a Darmstadt defender.

Schmid plays much too early, so the pace is out.

Dinkci then overlooks Felix Agu, who has run with him.

If that doesn't pay off...

79 minutes:

That doesn't exist!

Schmid pulls in from the penalty area and shoots at the short corner with his left hand - post!

78 minutes:

In return, Dinkci finishes but fails to hit the ball at all.

77 minutes:

And suddenly substitute Manu appears completely free in front of Pavlenka.

The Werder keeper makes a strong save with his foot.

But the flag is up.

The hit wouldn't have counted.

76 minutes:

Dinkci breaks through on the right this time, but Müller stops him at the last second.

There is even only repulsion - annoying!

73 minutes:

First change at Werder - Rapp hobbles off the field with thigh problems, Ilia Gruev comes on for him.

Make something of it!

71 minutes:

Referee Schröder with a real eye-catcher: trips over his own feet and slides hands first on his stomach across the grass.

Couldn't have made gap better when celebrating a goal!

69 minutes:

Schmidt pulls the due free kick sharply on goal - one to fly for shoes, who has no problems.

68 minutes:

The good Dinkci makes opponent Müller look old again, who only knows how to help himself with a tactical foul.

Yellow card!

65 minutes:

There are three changes at Darmstadt 98: Skarke, Tietz and Seydel go, Manu, Honsak and Luca Pfeiffer (double goal scorer in the first leg) come.

63 minutes:

A nice pass from Füllkrug to Schmidt – but unfortunately he misses.

Man!

Shortly thereafter, Dinkci breaks through on the left and has a lot of time to think... Too much!

He fails again with his attempt at the short corner because of SVD-Keeper shoes.

That should have been 2:0!

62 minutes:

Mbom is now getting stronger, makes significantly fewer mistakes and is also good on the offensive.

Keep it up!

58 minutes:

The subsequent Schmidt corner heads over it.

There was more in it!

57 minutes:

Romano Schmid tanks up and is stopped roughly in the penalty area.

But the game continues, the ball lands in front of Mbom's feet, whose attempt is blocked at the last second.

Pity!

56 minutes:

Rapp tries it from a distance - but misses quite a bit.

Werder Bremen against Darmstadt 98 in the live ticker: Goal for Werder!

Niclas Füllkrug scores to make it 1-0!

53 minutes:

Milos Veljkovic started the attack with a long pass and Schmid passed it on to Dinkci.

He dances out opponent Jannik Müller.

The rest was precision work - a nice goal for SV Werder's well-deserved lead!

52 minutes: Tooooooor for Werder!

Niclas Füllkrug nets a great Dinkci cross with his left!

1-0 for Bremen!

48 minutes:

Jung fouls Seydel relatively clumsily in his own half - he cleans up the subsequent free-kick cross from Kempe himself.

47 minutes:

Almost the first chance in the second half for Werder - but Niklas Schmidt is offside!

46 min:

The second half is on!

Werder is now playing on the east curve.

9:33 p.m .:

The teams come back onto the lawn.

Both teams go into the second half unchanged.

9:20 p.m .:

More than 42,000 fans see a varied and error-prone top game in Bremen’s Weser Stadium, which is surprisingly still goalless.

Gjasula significantly weakened the strong Darmstadt team with a foul on Romano Schmid and was rightly sent off the field with a red card (23').

As a result, there were chances for both sides.

Fill krug (26th and 28th) and Schmidt (43rd) missed twice for Werder from a promising position.

The latter failed at the post from close range.

Werder Bremen vs. SV Darmstadt in the live ticker: Goalless at halftime!

45 minutes:

A deflected cross ends up at left-back Felix Agu.

He puts the ball in front of him and works it nicely in the direction of the left corner of the goal.

But shoes are strong again!

Shortly afterwards there is a break!

43 minutes:

Is that bitter!

Super long pass from Schmid to Schmidt, who is briefly puzzled, but then finishes it.

Keeper shoes, however, is crucial with the foot, deflecting the ball to the post.

The rebound then lands perfectly in front of the onrushing Dinkci - and Schmidt obstructs and blocks his shot on goal decisively.

40 minutes:

The game loses some of its momentum and is now splashing along.

Mbom affords the next unnecessary bad pass - the eighth!

37 minutes:

The statistics confirm the impressions of the game so far - ball possession 50 to 50, Werder with seven shots, Darmstadt with nine attempts.

The duel balance is almost completely balanced.

The green-whites are still making too little of their majority.

The game remains buggy.

33 minutes:

It stays that way – Werder is not good at the back.

Again, Skarke is unlocked via the right.

But his shot clearly misses the mark!

31 minutes:

Despite being outnumbered, Darmstadt remains brave and offensive.

Seydel misses a good opportunity.

Watch out Werder!

28 minutes:

A great pass from Schmidt to Füllkrug, who fails again with his lob at Marcel Schuhen!

In the subsequent corner, Dinkci's shot from the back is blocked.

26 minutes:

First big Werder chance!

After a fine one-two between Dinkci and Schmid, the filling jug plays perfectly.

But the goal scorer on duty fails again because of Lilien-Keeper shoes!

That should have been the lead!

Werder Bremen against Darmstadt 98 in the live ticker: Klaus Gjasula sent off after a bad kick against Romano Schmid!

23 minutes:

The referee Robert Schröder, after viewing the video images, sends Gjasula off the field with a straight red.

It is his first dismissal of the current season.

However, he has already received eleven yellow cards.

21 minutes:

Klaus Gjasula fouls very badly against Romano Schmid, who kicks his knee with an open sole.

He initially sees a yellow card for boarding.

But the VAR steps in...

19 minutes:

First corner for Werder.

But Schmidt's ball sails completely through the penalty area and initiates a counterattack.

Skarke completes again, but harmlessly.

16 minutes:

Werder are getting a little better into the game now.

Overall, though, it's a very flawed game on both sides.

13 minutes:

Füllkrug is rudely fouled by his opponent Isherwood - actually a clear yellow card, but referee Schröder lets it go.

Lucky for Darmstadt!

The free kick fizzles out...

12 minutes:

Bremen's first really good offensive action: Eren Dinkci breaks through with his speed on the outside and throws it back to Füllkrug, whose shot attempt is blocked, however.

In the follow-up Werder stays on the trigger - Füllkrug sticks through for Dinkci - but he fails because of keeper shoes.

Pity!

But it would have been offside anyway!

10 minutes:

Manuel Mbom clumsily fouls his own penalty area.

Dangerous free kick position.

Ex-Bremer Tobias Kempe arranges the ball... and hammers it into the wall.

Fabian Holland's margin sails into the East upper tier.

8 minutes:

First dangerous shot on goal for Darmstadt - Tim Skarke aims just wide with his left!

Shortly thereafter, Aaron Seydel is unable to bring a cross to the goal decisively.

6 minutes:

Mbom with two very unfortunate actions in a row.

A slip and loss of possession is followed by an unnecessary ricochet.

After all, he then uncompromisingly wins a duel.

3 minutes:

Werder starts slightly nervous.

Veljkovic starts with an unnecessary loss of ball in his own penalty area, but this has no consequences.

2 minutes:

It is as announced.

The Grosso system makes the defensive chief the central player in the five-man chain.

Rapp plays on the six.

Werder Bremen against SV Darmstadt 98 in the live ticker: kick-off – the game is on!

1st minute: Referee Robert Schröder kicked off the game.

Werder starts from right to left!

8:29 p.m .:

The captains Christian Groß and Fabian Holland are ready to choose the side.

Here we go!

8:26 p.m .:

It’s slowly starting to tingle – both teams are about to step onto the lawn.

The almost sold-out Weser Stadium, only the guest block is not completely full, comes up to operating temperature.

The fans have prepared a gigantic choreography.

We're hot - let's go!

8:22 p.m .:

The referee of the top game in the 2nd division is Robert Schröder.

The sports specialist from Hanover will be assisted by Jan Neitzel-Petersen and Florian Exner.

Tim Skorczyk is 4th official.

Markus Schmidt is a video referee in the Cologne basement.

8:17 p.m .:

Werner’s counterpart Torsten Lieberknecht is looking forward to Sport1 with Darmstadt 98 “to deliver a great football game in front of an incredible audience.” His team should be brave against the weakened Bremen team: “We have our own pressure and want to win our games to to stay up there.”

8:09 p.m .:

Werder coach

Ole Werner explains at Sport1: "We will try to compensate for the absences as best we can and bring our strengths to the pitch.

Today we can show everyone that we can successfully defend ourselves against all odds and be successful.

We want to keep the three points here in Bremen.”

8:07 p.m .:

Werder’s head of professional football Clemens Fritz says on the Sport1 microphone that Bremen does not want to hide despite the personnel shortages: “It was not an easy week for us because it felt like there was different bad news every day.

But we're confident in our squad and now other guys who haven't been used that much have to step into the breach."

Werder Bremen against SV Darmstadt 98 in the live ticker – Ole Werner: "We want to keep the three points in Bremen"

8:04 p.m .:

But back to Werder.

The green-whites have two former Lilien kickers in their ranks.

Lars Lukas Mai (29 games for Darmstadt) and Nicolai Rapp (42 appearances) meet their former club straight away.

On the other side is an ex-Bremer on the game report sheet.

Tobias Kempe (at Werder from 2006 to 2010) played in Bremen from youth to U23.

8 p.m .:

Unlike Schalke and St. Pauli, HSV lost feathers again today in the 1-1 draw in Düsseldorf.

For Hamburg, the draw at Fortuna was the fourth league game without a win in a row.

Coach Tim Walter's team could even consider themselves lucky to have equalized with the last action of the game.

7:59 p.m .:

Bremen could catch up with leaders St. Pauli again with a win.

The same applies to Darmstadt, which would climb back to the top with a three-pointer due to the better goal difference.

7:58 p.m .:

A week ago, Sport1 expert and ex-Bremer Martin Harnik would have believed that Darmstadt 98 would have been extremely happy about a draw in Bremen.

Now he says: "I am convinced that they will play to win." SVD sports director Carsten Wehlmann hopes that "we will silence the Weser Stadium with a strong performance."

7:57 p.m .:

It has to be, because the previous results of the 27th matchday put Werder under a little pressure again in the promotion race of the 2nd division!

FC St. Pauli defeated pursuers Heidenheim (42 points) 1-0 on Friday evening and is now the new table leader with 51 points.

In the afternoon, Schalke 04 (now 47 points) got even better thanks to a narrow 2-1 win over Hannover 96 Werder and Co.

7:55 p.m .:

Unfortunately, that’s also part of the truth: From Werder’s point of view, the first leg in October was more unpleasant than any visit to the dentist.

The Bremen team lost painfully clearly at the Böllenfalltor with 0:3.

Goal scorers for the lilies were Fabian Holland and twice Luca Pfeiffer.

But rinse your mouth, move on.

Everything will be better today!

7:53 p.m .:

Meanwhile, the sick Bittencourt sends greetings from the home sofa via Instagram to all green and whites: “Vamos, Werder Bremen!” Nothing to add to that!

7.50 p.m .:

…the last duel in Bremen five years ago (on March 4, 2017) was a happy green and white day.

Back then a certain Max Kruse shot, who is celebrating his 34th birthday today – congratulations, Werder scored twice to win 2-0 at home.

Please imitate today, Niclas Füllkrug!

7.48 p.m .:

The overall record also speaks for Bremen: In a total of twelve competitive games between Werder and Darmstadt there were five wins, four draws and three defeats.

In addition…

Macht was draus!

19.26 Uhr: Apropos Startelf: Diese müsste hier jeden Augenblick reinflattern.

Fußballherz, was willst du mehr?

Werder Bremen gegen SV Darmstadt 98: Trainer Ole Werner will trotz vieler verletzter Spieler nicht jammern

Bundesliga in vollem Weserstadion

to his first game with the full Werder fan power.

This will also be necessary, as the coach expressly emphasized: "It's a top game!

A team is coming to Bremen that has been very, very good in recent weeks and is having a consistently good season.

It's quite a task for us.” But one that, despite all the unpleasant background noise, should also be fun.
