Salaries for Ligue 1 players have risen again this season. Unsurprisingly, PSG takes the lion's share with its famous MNM (M

Despite the health crisis and the industrial shock linked to Mediapro, French Ligue 1 clubs are doing well.

In any case, this is what the annual report unveiled for the sixth year by the daily L'Équipe suggests.

Thus, the overall salary mass in Ligue 1 has gone from €1.38 billion in 2018-2019 to €1.73 billion this season.

Unsurprisingly, the most significant increase is on the side of PSG, which has almost doubled its payroll (from 370 to 629 M €.

The biggest salaries: Paris monopolizes everything

First Neymar, second Messi, third Mbappé: the ranking of the highest salaries in Ligue 1 is not really original.

With a little over €4 million gross per month, the Brazilian is ahead of the Argentinian who “tops off” at €3.3 million while the French prodigy is content with just €2.2 million.

In all, seven players earn more than €1m per month (Marquinhos, Verratti, Hakimi and Navas complete the list).

To find the trace of a player outside PSG in the salary ranking, you have to go down to 15th place with the Monegasque Wissam Ben Yedder who peaks at €650,000 per month.

The average salary at PSG amounts to 990,000 euros, when for all L1 teams, it amounts to 100,000 euros (67,000 without PSG) according to calculations by L'Equipe.

€40,000 median salary

How much does a Ligue 1 player earn?

Of the 719 contracts during the first half of the season, it peaked at €100,000 but including PSG, which alone represents 37% of the national wage bill.

Without PSG, this average salary drops to €67,000.

But to be perfectly in the reality of the "field", the salary displayed is rather 40,000 €.

Indeed, 50% of players who play in Ligue 1 earn less than €40,000, which is its median salary.

Marseille and Monaco clash

Behind the unbeatable PSG, OM and Monaco remain the safe bets in Ligue 1 with respectively €226,000 and €185,000.

Nice (4th) with €130,000 is still far from the podium but ahead of Lyon which only has €120,000, tied with Rennes.

At the very bottom, we find the promoted Clermont, who offers an average salary of €20,000 per month.

Pochettino and others

Among the coaches, Mauricio Pochettino is the best paid with a gross monthly salary of €1.1m.

The Parisian is ahead of Jorge Sampaoli, who wins €330,000.

Behind the two Argentinians, Christophe Galtier is the first French technician.

The Niçois also has a salary of €330,000 like the Marseillais.

With 25,000 € per month, the Clermontois Pascal Gastien brings up the rear.

At European level, the Parisian coach would not even be on the podium of the English championship dominated by Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), who stands at 1.89 M €.

The Spaniard is far from Diego Simeone's record.

The Argentinian Atletico Madrid coach earns €3.3m a month.

And for girls...

With €37,000 per month each, the Parisian Kadidiatou Diani and the Lyonnaise Wendie Renard are the two women who earn the most.

OL's Norwegian star Ada Hegerberg completes the podium with €35,000.

While OL and PSG take the lion's share with average salaries of €12,000 and €9,0000, the other elite clubs offer average salaries of less than €2,000.

Some players, like at Issy-les-Moulineaux, who only have eleven federal contracts, are still amateurs with another job on the side.
