It cost him dearly.
Russian Olympic champion Yevgeny Rilov lost his sponsorship deal with Speedo after attending a rally held by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week.
Rilov, who won two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics last year in the 100m and 200m backstroke, was seen at a rally with the letter "Z" on his outfit - the symbol associated with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The global governing body of the FINA swimming industry said it was "deeply disappointed" by Rilov's appearance at the rally and he will investigate the case.
Swimsuit maker Speedo told Olympic website insidethegames that it "discontinued Rilov's sponsorship immediately" following his presence at the event.
The event was attended by a number of Olympic medalists from the Tokyo Olympics, including artistic gymnast Dina Abrina and her sister Arena, as well as medalists from the Beijing Winter Olympics, when a number of disciplines have already said they are examining how to respond.
