Linoy Ashram's retirement announcement provided the Russian Gymnastics Association with another opportunity to blame the Israeli for winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The union's president, Irina Osmanova, today (Thursday) referred to Ashram's retirement with a small sting.
"She retired a long time ago. She participated in the Olympics, won the apparent gold medal, and left. For him, this is not news."
As you may recall, in Russia it was difficult to accept Ashram's victory in the Olympic gold at the expense of their representative Dina Avrina, who had to make do with the silver medal.
The country that traditionally dominates the gymnastics industry has been outraged that Ashram dropped her device in the last exercise in the Olympic final, and therefore winning the gold medal is unfair.
