Olympic Games 2024: basketball will not be played in Hall 6 of the Parc des Expositions

2022-03-24T14:28:08.516Z

Under the double pressure of the players and the International Basketball Federation, the Paris 2024 organizing committee has decided, according to L'Équipe, to change its tune and give up the site located at Porte de Versailles.

According to the daily L'Équipe, which relies on sources familiar with the matter, "

the International Basketball Federation

(FIBA)

and the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

(OCOG)

are to announce this Thursday afternoon that 'Due to unresolved technical constraints

(lighting, air conditioning, TV production)', Hall 6 of the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles will not host basketball matches during the Games.

A decision which should calm the anger of certain members of the France team, such as Evan Fournier or Rudy Gobert, both of whom are stepping up to criticize, strongly, this choice.

However, it remains to know the alternative solution that will be adopted, knowing that Jean-Philippe Gatien had affirmed, still in the columns of the sports daily, that “no plan B” had been decided.

The option of relocating the 1st round to the provinces, as will be the case for handball which will be played in full in Lille, does not seem to be on the menu.

Logic would dictate that the new Porte de la Chapelle Arena, built for basketball and the Paris club, would ensure the succession, but badminton and rhythmic gymnastics are already scheduled in this place.

The puzzle could only begin.
