The 52nd road race in Augsburg was extremely well attended.

In the race for the top places, TSV Penzberg got involved, despite various difficulties.

Augsburg – It wasn't as if Markus Brennauer was dawdling somewhere along the route – on the contrary.

At the "52.

Augsburger AOK-Straßenlauf” the Penzberger himself said he had run the 10 kilometers faster than he had in years.

And yet it wasn't enough for the 42-year-old to get a top place in the overall standings.

With 33:21 minutes, Brennauer only took 21st place.

The junior high school teacher took it sportively, rather he was happy that he had been part of a competition at such a high level.

In addition, the athlete and coach of

TSV Penzberg

was able to celebrate a club record – in addition to winning the M40 class: In the team ranking, Brennauer came with Max Weigand (31:51/5th place) and Lucas Herbeck (32:31/ 10th place) to a remarkable total time of 1:37:44 hours.

That meant second place, just behind PTSV Rosenheim (1:37:14).

Another Penzberg highlight in the race through the Siebentischwald was provided by Corinna Braun, who won the youth classification over the 5 kilometers with a time of 19:17 minutes.

The 17-year-old felt like all TSV athletes that day: she started too quickly, also because the strong competition started so quickly.

Braun ran her first kilometer in 3:30 minutes.

"I was really shocked when I looked at the clock," she said.

She then slowed her speed.

“Up until the turning point at 2.5 kilometers I was in a group.

But after the turning point, I lost touch,” said Braun.

She was then on the road at a pace of 4:00 minutes per kilometer (equivalent to 15 km/h).

On the last kilometer, Braun again accelerated significantly and won the youth classification with a lead of more than four minutes.

Club mate Emilia Weigand also ran the 5 kilometers.

With 20:53 minutes, the 19-year-old was twelfth in the women's race.

"It wasn't quite the best time, but I'm still reasonably satisfied," said the student.

Her older brother Max Weigand placed fifth among the best with a personal best of 31:52 minutes in the 10 kilometer race, but was not completely happy.

“After two kilometers I thought I could run under 31 minutes today.

But at kilometer three, my stomach started rebelling,” says the 26-year-old psychologist.

He had covered the first two kilometers in 5:56 minutes and had a 20 meter lead over the rest of the field at that point.

But many other runners started too fast in Weigand's wake, including his club mates Herbeck and Brennauer.

They ran the first two kilometers in 6:20 minutes, but felt good, according to a TSV statement.

Both led the chasing group and kept the pace up to kilometer four.

As a result, however, Weigand had to let some of his competitors go: “My legs were in great shape, but my stomach forced me to slow down to 3:20 minutes per kilometer.” Lucas Herbeck was even worse off.

The 24-year-old even had to stop.

"My stitch got so bad.

I just didn't know what to do.” Herbeck fell 30 seconds behind Brennauer, who lost contact with the chasing group after six kilometers.

Lucas Herbeck has to stop and is still fast

While Brennauer and Weigand fought not to lose time, Herbeck picked up speed.

From kilometer five "every kilometer was faster than 3:10 minutes, the last one even in 3:01 minutes," said the student.

"Without a side stitch, I could have run under 32 minutes today." Overall winner over 10 kilometers was Austrian Timo Hinterndorfer (born 2004) in 31:14 minutes.

Elhadji Diouf and Martin Hermann from

TSV Peißenberg

completed their first competition after a long break .

Both showed remarkable performances over the 10 kilometers.

Diouf crossed the finish line in 38:13, which earned him 16th place in the M30 class.

Hermann took second place in the M60 class with 41:00 minutes.

In the overall standings, the veteran took 98th place among 245 finishers.

Hermann also praised the organization: "As always with TG Viktoria Augsburg, everything went as planned."

A trio from the “ Team Schönegger Käse-Alm

” was happy about strong 10-kilometer times

.

Rottenbuch's Peter Vogt (34:24 minutes) and Hohenfurch's Stefan Fichtl (34:51) both stayed under the 35-minute mark.

"We didn't think such a result was possible for a long time," says Vogt.

Most recently, however, they had "trained well and a lot", as Vogt reported.

Fichtl had only reduced his 10-kilometer best time to 35:38 at the beginning of the year, during the New Year's Eve run in Kempten.

Vogt's record so far was just over 35 minutes.

Three best times for the "Team Schönegger Käse-Alm"

In view of the high level of performance in the field of participants - 14 men stayed under 33 minutes - both athletes did not get a podium place in the overall ranking or in the age group.

Vogt was seventh in the M35 class and finished 27th overall.

Stefan Fichtl finished ninth in the M35 class and 31st in the overall ranking of all 245 men.

Benedikt Mergler's performance was also convincing: the man from Altenstadt completed his first 10-kilometer race in the normal attendance format, i.e. with a mass start, and crossed the finish line after 36:05 minutes.

That meant ninth place in the M30 class and 41st place overall.
