The German national soccer team has not won an international match for the first time since national coach Hansi Flick took office.

After eight wins in eight games, the endurance test against the Netherlands ended 1-1 (1-0) in the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Thomas Müller scored the opening goal (45th minute +1), who with his 43rd goal for the German national team caught up with Uwe Seeler in the all-time top scorer list.

Steven Bergwijn (68th) scored for the team of Louis van Gaal, once Müller's sponsor at FC Bayern.

Müller initiated the first good scene of the German offensive: his pass, brought into the penalty area with a chipball, landed on Leroy Sané, whose shot hit the Dutchman's side netting (12').

Timo Werner headed on the crossbar from offside (21').

Otherwise, the German team played patiently in a well-organized Elftal, but without the great penetrating power in front of the goal of Freiburg keeper Mark Flekken, who played his second international match against the DFB-Elf.

On the other side, the much more experienced Manuel Neuer spent a long quiet evening.

A first header from Teun Koopmeiners (6th) proved to be harmless, otherwise the Netherlands played quickly, but rarely precisely, after German ball losses.

Memphis started the most dangerous moment with a through ball, but BVB striker Donyell Malen let himself be pushed aside by Antonio Rüdiger on the way to the goal (35').

The best German move then brought the lead shortly before the break: The busy Jamal Musiala showed a half-left run to the baseline, got the through ball from Timo Werner and played it in the middle.

There, Tyrell Malacia cleared in front of Kai Havertz, who was ready to score – but Müller was still lurking 14 meters in front of the goal, who shot the free ball into the goal with force (45.+1).

Germany and Kehrer in luck

After the break, David Raum had the opportunity to make it 2-0, but because the moved up left-back hesitated too long after a pass from Sané, Raum missed his first international goal (47th).

Then the Elftal got stronger.

Matthijs de Ligt missed the goal with a volley (54'), and then substitute Bergwijn took the chance to equalize the game from close range (68').

Previously, the tall Denzel Dumfries had prevailed against Raum in a header duel and thus dangerously extended a cross from the half field into the middle.

The first defeat of the Flick era was later prevented by video evidence: Referee Craig Pawson had already awarded a penalty after Thilo Kehrer had tacked Memphis hard .

The penalty was taken back, in the closing stages Neuer held on to the draw – substitute Lukas Nmecha missed the chance of a late German winner (88').
