Corona hit the Bayern league football club VfB Hallbergmoos hard.

Before the important away game in Kottern, however, the situation eases up a bit.

Hallbergmoos

– The combination of Corona, relegation battle and English week is treacherous, but the situation among the footballers at VfB Hallbergmoos is easing a bit.

The Bayernliga penultimate team has a few more players available for the game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at TSV Kottern compared to the inevitable defeat on Sunday in Garching (1:2).

And that gives some hope of being able to stand up to the basement duel.

In Garching, Hallbergmooser had a goalkeeper and twelve field players with them.

"Under normal circumstances, eight of these players would have been in the squad," explains coach Matthias Strohmaier, pointing out that he actually had to put kickers on the field who were unable to play.

Nine players infected with Corona watched the game from home, in which, as expected, VfB ran out of air at the end.

The danger of this disease was also shown in three cases of players who were struck down really badly by the virus.

Monday training with eight players

Since then, tests have been carried out to see what the stuff holds - and on Monday Strohmaier was able to announce that important leading players such as Andreas Giglberger, Andreas Kostorz or Simon Werner are negative again.

They should be able to test themselves out of quarantine in time for Kottern.

After Monday training with eight players, there is hope that the personnel situation will improve.

Strohmaier then has to assess the state of recovery and the performance potential of the returnees at short notice.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

"We can classify defeats like the one in Garching correctly," says the VfB coach.

His team showed team spirit and commitment.

Nevertheless, the Hallbergmoosers lost a lot of ground in the relegation battle because the competition scored diligently.

Therefore, the team is now on the penultimate place and thus on a direct relegation zone.

With a point behind TSV 1865 Dachau, only the last relegation rank is within reach.

Strohmaier: "We will turn over every single blade of grass in Kottern."

TSV Kottern, three places ahead of Hallbergmoos, currently has five points more.

With four points from five games after the winter break and most recently three defeats in a row, the Allgäu were passed in the table.

"The example of SV Pullach shows us how quickly things can go," says Strohmaier.

After the dismal 0-0 draw against Hallbergmoos, the club from the south of Munich has won three times and is about to leave the relegation places.

"We still have enough games to start a series like this," the coach makes clear.

But now you have to make the best of the situation - "and we will turn over every single blade of grass there in Kottern".

Possible lineup:

VfB Hallbergmoos:

Dinkel - Petschner, Opitz, Giglberger (Mühlrath), Mömkes - Kostorz, Beetz (Küttner), Schmit, Krause - Werner, Aygün.
