The chances of a home win were extremely bad for Weilheim's basketball players: only six players were available.

But they made a great comeback.

Weilheim – what a tour de force: the Red Devils Weilheim basketball team was trailing behind almost the entire game in the home game of the 2nd regional league south against MTSV Schwabing II.

In the last few minutes, however, the small team of the hosts managed to turn things around, which was no longer thought possible, and in the end won 83:72 (29:44) at home against the fourth-placed team from the state capital.

Two long benches are available in the Jahnhalle to offer coaches and players of both teams a seat.

In the home game against the Schwabingers, half a bench would have been enough for the Weilheimers to accommodate everyone who was not busy on the field at the time.

In addition to coach Darryl Millwood and Milan Keser, who couldn't play himself but took over the coaching, only one player took a seat, as Weilheimer had just scraped together six fit players against Munich.

TSV Weilheim only has six players available

"Corona got us pretty bad," said Millwood, who experienced a largely relaxed evening because Keser represented him as a trainer.

"He did a good job," Millwood said.

His representative immediately passed on the praise he received to the team.

"The boys did everything I told them to do," said Keser.

The performance in the first half, especially in the second quarter, was, to put it mildly, very expandable.

After the Weilheimers had balanced the first quarter against the MTSV youngsters, who were on average 17 and 18 years old, almost nothing went in the second quarter.

There were only a meager ten points in ten minutes.

That wasn't enough to keep up.

As a result, it went into the dressing room with a clear deficit of 15 points.

TSV Weilheim with a strong finish

The return to the field was painful for Alex Thumser, as an opponent's elbow hit him in the forehead in a duel, which resulted in a serious dent in the Weilheimer.

"But that apparently shook me up," joked the TSV veteran.

In the first half he only collected two meager points, after the change Thumser experienced a real performance explosion.

"Alex was amazing," said the amazed Millwood.

Thumser suddenly hit in series from the free-throw line, under the basket or from a distance.

Together with Miljan Grujic, who couldn't be stopped by the MTSV defense for more than 40 minutes, Thumser started a catch-up race for the home side, which brought them close again after a 14-0 run.

In the 28th minute, Weilheim was in the lead for the first time (55:54).

The guests then caught themselves again because they successfully completed some three-point throws.

The game went back and forth up to six minutes before the end.

Then Thumser got the fans excited with two threes within a very short time and a little later to ecstasy.

The MTSV boys, on the other hand, became more and more restless and nervous.

They couldn't get even the simplest balls into the basket.

The ripped-off half-dozen of the home side, on the other hand, played themselves into a frenzy and, with a 12:4 series in the final phase, made the home win, which was no longer thought possible, perfect.

Statistics:

Weilheim's players and points: Alex Thumser 31/2 threes, Miljan Grujic 29, Alex Brem 13/1, Philip Merkl 8, Philipp Brenner 3, Rivaldo Domingos.
