Yuri Kalashnikov finished tonight (Wednesday) in fifth place at the European Wrestling Championships, held in Budapest, Hungary in freestyle.
Kalashnikov, a bronze medalist from the Under-23 World Championships, competing in the 86kg weight class, did lose in the quarterfinals to Miles Amin, from San Marino, winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, but his opponent managed to reach the final, which drew the Israeli to third place.
In the battle for the bronze, Kalashnikov met the Turkish Osman Guzhan, the bronze medalist from the World Under-23 Championships, in a close battle that ended in an 8: 8 tie but the advantage was for the Turk because of the criteria of points according to the exercises.
