Former star striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the head coach of PSV Eindhoven in his native Netherlands for the new season, succeeding Roger Schmidt.
The 45-year-old received a contract until 2025, the second in the honor division announced on Wednesday.
Schmidt (55) announced in February that he would leave the club in the summer.
"It has always been my dream to become PSV head coach," said van Nistelrooy, who scored 62 goals in 67 games for Eindhoven from 1998 to 2001: "It's the right moment to take the next step." National player had previously worked at the club as a youth and assistant coach for the first team.
Van Nistelrooy, who retired in 2012, has scored 35 goals in 70 caps for Oranje.
At the EM 2020 he worked as an assistant to national coach Frank de Boer.
Van Nistelrooy had previously held this position from 2014 to 2016.
As a striker, van Nistelrooy became champions with Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
From January 2010 until the end of the 2010/11 season, the goalscorer played for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga.
