A victory in September will take Israel to the World Cup qualifiers • Yoni Erlich: "This is a difficult and challenging team, it will be an excellent tennis experience" • Avi Peretz: "I did not care who we get as long as it is at home"

Israel's Davis team was drawn today for a difficult home meeting, against the Czech team, as part of the 1 house games of the Davis Cup.

The meeting will take place on the weekend of September 16 and 17, when a victory will elevate Israel to a meeting in the framework of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Czechs have five tennis players who are currently ranked among the 164 best in the world, with the most senior among them being Yiri Wesley, ranked 77 in the world, and Vieri Band ranked 98 in the world.

The last meeting between the teams took place in the Czech Republic in April 2018 and ended in a 3: 1 loss to Israel.

As you may recall, Israel defeated the South African team earlier this month, in a meeting that took place in Ashdod, after a series of five consecutive away meetings.

Israel was not ranked in the draw and could also meet the following teams: Austria (away game), Colombia (draw), Japan (home), Ecuador (draw), Chile (home), Brazil (draw), India (draw), Hungary (home), Slovakia (home), Finland (outside), Bosnia and Herzegovina (lottery).

The captain / player, Yoni Erlich, commented on the draw: "A stone has been rolled over my heart, I hoped we would win a home game again so I am very happy that it is in the country. After a series of away games, twice a year playing at home is not obvious "History, this is an opportunity for our team to play in front of our hot crowd again and see high level players. I hope we will come in excellent playing shape and it will be a great tennis experience."

The chairman of the Tennis Association, Avi Peretz: "After the experience we had in Ashdod, with the wonderful support and encouragement from the crowd, I did not care who we got as long as it was at home, and we saw how much energy it gave to the tennis industry.

"So we did get one of the tough draws, but we do not give up and with the help of the crowd, the team and the wonderful players we have, we will fight as always to the end."
