The VW Group is planning to enter Formula 1. But now there is trouble between the subsidiaries Audi and Porsche – the two are probably not pulling together.
Wolfsburg/Ingolstadt/Stuttgart – In all likelihood, Formula 1* can look forward to two new German teams: VW is planning to enter the pinnacle of motorsport with its subsidiaries Audi* and Porsche*.
According to
Business Insider
, the VW supervisory board should give the green light for the billion-euro project as early as next week.
According to reports, "Project Speed" looks like this: VW wants to get involved with two teams from the subsidiary brands Audi and Porsche from 2026.
Internally, however, not everything runs smoothly.
Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft |
Foundation: May 28, 1937 in Berlin |
Chairman of the Board: Herbert Diess |

Formula 1 soon with Audi, Porsche or both?
Actually, Audi and Porsche wanted to develop a powertrain together to save resources.
But this idea has apparently long since been shelved and has given way to competitive thinking.
"The relationship between Audi boss Markus Duesmann and Porsche boss Oliver Blume is tense," Business Insider
quoted
a source from supervisory board circles as saying.
Accordingly, Duesmann accused Porsche boss Blume of having betrayed him.
Porsche announced that it wanted to enter into an exclusive partnership with Red Bull* – which Audi viewed as an affront.
"Duesmann seemed visibly touched," said a top manager.
The reason: Duesmann is a motorsport specialist and has been driving the Formula 1 project for a long time.
Formula 1: New details on the VW entry
The fact that something is up with VW has long been an open secret in the Formula 1 scene.
"Wait and you will soon know more," said Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali, according to the

, to a corresponding question.
Apparently, the supervisory boards of Audi and Porsche have already approved the plans, and by summer at the latest there should be clarity when the new eco-regulations for the racing series are passed.
An insider is said to have said: "Some questions are still unanswered, but we are very optimistic." According to reports, the plan currently looks like this: While Porsche wants to win a partner with Red Bull, who has its strengths primarily in marketing, plans Audi nothing less than the takeover of the traditional British racing team McLaren*, a corresponding declaration of intent has already been submitted.
One thing is certain: from a German perspective in particular, there are exciting years ahead in Formula 1.
