Victim of a foot injury, Caroline Garcia had announced that she wanted to take a break for several weeks.

It was expected, planned.

It is now official.

The French Tennis Federation confirmed this Friday morning that Caroline Garcia will not be present during the qualifying round of the "Billie Jean King Cup" (ex Fed Cup) against Italy, which will take place in Alghero, Sardinia, on the 15 and April 16, 2022.

Not really a surprise because the current 67 in the world (2nd French in the ranking behind Alizé Cornet), injured, announced Thursday that she wanted to take a break.

She had given up on March 22 in the first round of the Miami tournament complaining of a right ankle injury.

“Since February, I have been suffering from a foot injury.

With my team, we decided to take a few weeks to do the care and follow an adapted protocol to allow me to return 100% to the court, ”explained the 28-year-old player on her social networks.

To replace Garcia against Italy - and join a group already made up of Clara Burel, Alizé Cornet and Kristina Mladenovic - the captain of the France team Julien Benneteau has decided to select Océane Dodin.

At 25, the native of Lille will therefore honor her second selection with the Blue after against… Italy in 2016 in Marseille.

She had not played a match at the time.

The world number 97 is playing the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 tournament in Marbella this Friday.
