The draw for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is imminent.

DFB coach Hansi Flick has a special wish for a special World Cup - a late draw.

Doha – On Friday (April 1) everyone is spellbound at the draw for the World Cup* in Qatar.

In the run-up, there is a lot of discussion about the possible opponents in the group phase and the often-cited “luck of the draw” of the German national team.

But national coach Hansi Flick has a completely different wish for his DFB team.

For the first time in history, the special desert World Cup in Qatar will take place in winter, with the final scheduled for six days before Christmas.

From November 21 to December 18, 2022, the tournament will be held at high speed.

For comparison: The World Cup four years ago in Russia lasted four days longer.

A tight program for Germany and the other teams.

Hansi Flick also recognized this.

The draw for the group stage of the 2022 World Cup could be of decisive importance for the further course of the tournament, but that does not mean the opponents.

The date of the first game is likely to be more important to the national coach than the opponents (an overview of all Hansi Flick’s coaching positions) in view of the Bundesliga games scheduled for November 13th.

Flick wishes the German team a late draw.

While groups A and B start on November 21st, the teams from groups G and H are not challenged until November 24th.

In plain language this means: If Germany is only one of the last balls drawn from pot two, there would be more preparation time between the Bundesliga break and the start of the World Cup.

Then Flick could even add a short training camp in Qatar or one of the neighboring countries, which also has a pleasant climate.

As a reminder: Flick had called a training camp in Lagos, Portugal, as FC Bayern coach before the 2020 Champions League final.

The later premier class tournament took place in Lisbon.

The result is known: Bayern took the handle pot.

Now Flick wants the World Cup to follow.

In 2014 in Brazil, the 57-year-old triumphed once as an assistant coach.

The German team is threatened with a hammer lot in the draw.

But that scares Flick the least.

"I've been through a few draws.

We're going there, we'll take a look and see what we've been drawn and we'll prepare ourselves well for the task," said the national coach in advance.

The DFB team may have to wait even longer for an opponent: 29 countries have qualified for the 2022 World Cup - three places are still up for grabs.
