The competition for promotion wins. However, HSV once again gambled away its chances for the first division, albeit strangely. In the meantime, snow was not only successfully shoveled in Darmstadt.

The 28th match day of the 2nd Bundesliga had another disappointment in store for Hamburger SV.

HSV lost 1:2 (0:1) against SC Paderborn.

In the fight for promotion, Darmstadt 98 won 3-1 (2-0) against Holstein Kiel and is at the top of the table at least until the St. Pauli game in the evening at Hansa Rostock (8.30 p.m., TV: Sky).

And Hannover 96 could not get past a 1:1 (1:1) against Jahn Regensburg despite a long majority.

Since being relegated in 2018, Hamburger SV has tried to climb every year with a new team and a new coach.

In recent years, the former Bundesliga Dino failed dramatically in the last few games, this time the groundhog says hello earlier: After the bankruptcy against Paderborn, the fifth winless game in a row, Hamburg are now nine points behind the relegation rank with six games to go .

The defeat against Paderborn came about almost curiously.

The ball was in the goal after just 45 seconds – thanks to a fantastic shot.

After winning the ball, Dennis Srbeny reacted at lightning speed and shot from 40 meters over HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, who was usually in possession of the ball, to take the lead (1st minute).

HSV recovered from the shock, but guest keeper Jannik Huth saved a penalty from Robert Glatzel (57') before Srbeny made the preliminary decision a little later with his second goal, this time from a moderate distance (61').

To the Hanseatic misfortune, two goals were withdrawn for offside.

A goalkeeper error only made it through Giorgi Chakvetadze (90+5).

Due to a fresh blanket of snow, fans came to the stadium at Böllenfalltor with snow shovels on Saturday morning so that the game could take place.

After all, unlike HSV, Darmstadt still have the best chances in the fight for promotion.

And so the Hessians also played against Kiel, who have not yet secured relegation.

In a strong early phase, in which Darmstadt could have scored several goals, it was Matthias Bader whose attempted cross fell past friend and foe into the far corner (10').

Shortly before the break, Aaron Seydel, a former player from Kiel, raised the ball (45+1).

In the second half things got exciting a few seconds after Kwasi Okyere Wriedt scored to connect (49').

In direct return, Braydon Manu restored the old distance (50th).

Because Darmstadt goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen only punched Benedikt Pichler's head instead of the ball, Kiel got the chance to come back.

As in Hamburg, however, the goalkeeper had the upper hand: Schuhen parried against Alexander Mühling, who was actually considered a safe shooter (60th).

According to the statistics portal transfermarkt.de, it was only the second missed shot for Mühling in the 19th attempt in professional football.

Despite a point, Hannover remains afraid of relegation.

After the last three defeats in a row, club boss Martin Kind had demanded two wins from the games against Regensburg and in Aue.

However, it didn't look like that at first: After a corner, Regensburg's Andreas Albers headed the lead on the second post (23').

A few minutes later, however, the game should turn: Carlo Boukhalfa saw red because he caught Hannover's Dominik Kaiser with the open sole above the knee (27th).

In the remaining more than an hour, 96 managed to score the equalizer through Sebastian Stolze (39th).
