Several athletes from the region presented themselves in great shape at the Marathon Championships in Hanover on Sunday.

Two Penzberger and one Peitinger won medals.

Hanover – The German champions were also determined at the marathon in Hanover on Sunday.

Several athletes from the district won medals in their age groups.

Two athletes from TSV Penzberg were on the podium: Markus Brennauer and Hugo Mann.

Brennauer ran the 42.195 kilometers in 2:28:39 hours.

The Realschule teacher won the bronze medal in the M40 class.

The 42-year-old just barely missed a personal best.

Hugo Mann also took bronze in the M65 class: The man from Penzberg ran the classic distance in 3:11:51 hours.

Christian Scholz was also happy about a top result: The man from Peiting, who competes for SVL LA Germaringen, took second place in the M50 class with a time of 2:47:01 hours.

The DM titles were won by Hendrik Pfeiffer (2:10:59) from TV Wattenscheid and Domenika Mayer (2:26:50) from LG Telis Finanz Regensburg.

A total of 18,098 runners were registered for the 30th edition of the HAJ Hannover marathon.

3,527 of them ran the marathon distance.

"The three months of training camp in Kenya paid off," said Hendrik Pfeiffer at the finish.

"It was cool, even if it was hard from thirty kilometers alone against the wind, but I was sure that I could do it." It was the first German championship title ever for the man from Wattenscheid.

He ran the second best time of his career and with this German best time of the year not only undercut the norm for the European but also for the World Championships.

Women's winner Domenika Mayer's time was exactly the same as her teammate Miriam Dattke's best time for the year in Germany.
