A legendary 42-year, 15-day career ended: Mike Shevsky, the legendary Duke College coach, said goodbye this morning (Sunday) to college basketball with an 81-77 loss to North Carolina, the big rival, in a dramatic and tense game in the NCAA Final Four semifinals.
The Blue Devils and the Tar Hills first met in the semifinals, and the battle between the two neighboring colleges met all expectations.
Everything was ready to close the circle for Coach Kay, who wanted to win the NCAA Championship for the sixth time in his retirement round.
But in the end, quite symbolically, it was actually North Carolina (which also spoiled the celebration in Sheshevsky's last home game earlier this season) that was the one that shelved his dream.

The hero of the Tar Hills victory was Supermor Caleb Love, who sniped 28 points and was signed to the decisive basket of the game that gave North Carolina a 3-half-minute lead to finish.
R.J. Davis added 18, and on the other side freshman Paulo Banchero, the first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, apparently parted ways with the Blue Devils with 20 points.
North Carolina will try to win its seventh championship in the final to be held on the night between Monday and Tuesday, but will face a not-so-easy hurdle in the form of Kansas, who defeated Villanova 65-81 in the first semifinal.
