Bielefeld's record goalscorer Fabian Klos, who suffered a serious head injury, has undergone surgery.

The operation on the 34-year-old went "without complications", said the Bundesliga soccer club on Tuesday.

Klos is "fully conscious."

The striker sustained the serious head injury in a violent collision in injury time with his teammate Alessandro Schöpf in Arminia Bielefeld's Bundesliga game against VfB Stuttgart (1-1).

The club had not announced an exact diagnosis afterwards.

After the collision, paramedics headed towards the scene of the accident.

But this took too long for the Stuttgart goal scorer Sasa Kalajdzic.

He grabbed the stretcher and ran to toilets.

'All I saw was that he was hit in the head.

Whenever something like this happens, immediate help is needed," Kalajdzic said of the scene.

According to the club, Arminia is missing Klos indefinitely.

He is leaving the club in the summer and wanted to continue his career at another club afterwards.

That is now uncertain.

"Fabian Klos would like to thank you for all the recovery wishes that have reached him and his family in the last few days," says the Arminia statement.
