It's that time again - and now it's unmistakable.

It's sprouting in Michael Köllner's face.

Gray and white stubble surround his chin.

Munich

– The growth is irregular on the sides, but the 1860 coach is just beginning with his playoff beard 2.0.

In the press round on Tuesday, he made a secret of his superstitions.

"Let's see," said Köllner when asked - and grinned.

He only confirmed one thing: the last time he grabbed a razor after the Totopokal bankruptcy in Aubstadt.

TSV 1860: Michael Köllner believes in promotion

Robber Hotzenplotz reloaded.

Petra Freitag, Köllner's partner, will have to be very brave until the last game of the season on May 14th.

Bart's initial spark was a 0-1 defeat in Duisburg a year ago, which upset Köllner for a long time - and ensured that stubble and the points account grew in step with it (eleven games without defeat).

In the end it was just not enough for the relegation.

And this time?

Will it be a promotion beard this year?

In any case, the optimism of the coach is unbroken, the bitter 1-1 draw against Saarbrücken is no reason for him to reject the new (old) season goal.

Köllner's calculation goes like this: "With an average of two points per game, you're promoted one hundred percent.

We've had an average of 2.1 since the Dortmund game and have been playing extremely consistently for months.

We still need this cut, maybe even a better one, but that's the nice thing: We can still do great things this season - and we're working hard on that."

TSV 1860: Next stop Freiburg

Köllner's hope for the final sprint is on the one hand the tight field at the top of the table - and on the other hand the defensiveness of those clubs that are threatened in their third division membership.

Viktoria Berlin's victory against leaders Magdeburg on Monday is the best example of this.

"The lower teams also urgently need points," he says, interpreting the table in his own way: "We are level on points with Mannheim, which everyone counts among the promotion teams.

Saarbrücken is one point ahead of us, and everyone says: you're great in the race!

We need wins, no question, but Braunschweig also need them, they have a game more than us.” Köllner knows: “We don't have it in our own hands anymore, but I think we showed an impressive performance against Saarbrücken .” Without Hiller,

Steinhart and Salger - but with strong young lions (Greilinger, Morgalla).

And above all: with a lot of bite and passion.

If Köllner has his way, things can go on like this, whereby he critically comments: “It wasn't perfect, because otherwise we would have won.

Despite all the referee's scolding: We simply have to score more goals - on the other hand defend our goal better.

If we train like we did the week before and the players keep up their tenacity, then we have a good chance of winning in Freiburg on Sunday.” And then against Osnabrück, Havelse, Duisburg, Magdeburg and Dortmund.

TSV 1860: Looking ahead

Köllner's biggest concern in the hot phase of the season: that the rulers, like on Saturday, would decide against his team in case of doubt - "because maybe it's anchored somewhere in the subconscious: 1860 was favored with the Türkgücü-Aus.

I hope that we will be judged objectively and not fall victim to a decision where you might feel that you have to balance something.”

Otherwise, the 1860 coach doesn't want to dwell on Saturday's unfortunate decisions: "I read that there have to be two penalties - but that the 1-1 was regular.

Basically, I don't like to deal with something like that, because it doesn't help to find my inner mental balance.
