Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar: schedule, results, groups

It is the first Winter World Cup in football history: The World Cup will be held in Qatar between November 21st and December 18th. All important information about the tournament can be found here.

It is the most important football tournament in the world - and will be held in winter for the first time this year: from November 21, 32 national teams will be playing for the World Cup title in Qatar.

The Gulf State is hosting a World Cup for the first time.

The final will take place on December 18th in front of more than 80,000 spectators at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

France is going into the tournament as defending champions, while the reigning European champions, Italy, surprisingly missed out on qualifying.

Germany is one of the extended favorites and will meet Spain, among others, in the group phase.

    Die Begegnungen werden in acht verschiedenen Stadien ausgetragen. Im größten, dem Lusail Iconic Stadium (80.000 Zuschauer), findet je ein Viertel- und Halbfinale sowie das Endspiel am 18. Dezember statt. Das al-Bayt-Stadion ist mit einer Kapazität von 60.000 Zuschauern das zweitgrößte des Landes und ist Austragungsort des Eröffnungsspiels.

    Die Weltmeisterschaft wird - wie gewohnt - im großen Umfang auf den öffentlich-rechtlichen Sendern übertragen. Die ARD und das ZDF teilen sich 48 von 64 Partien auf. Doch wie schon bei der Europameisterschaft im vergangenen Jahr sicherte sich auch Magenta TV Rechte. Der Telekom-Sender zeigt exklusiv 16 Spiele. Die Begegnungen der DFB-Elf laufen jedoch garantiert im Free-TV:

    • ein mögliches Achtelfinale mit Deutschland zeigt das ZDF

    • ein mögliches Viertelfinale mit Deutschland zeigt die ARD

    • ein mögliches Halbfinale mit Deutschland zeigt das ZDF
