After the change chaos against SC Freiburg, Oliver Kahn insisted that Bayern did not make a mistake.

But he's wrong about that.

Villarreal - Even before the Champions League defeat against FC Villarreal, Oliver Kahn couldn't resist a question about the Freiburg game.

The head of the board of FC Bayern* commented on his team’s change mistakes.

At the Freiburg game, twelve players were on the pitch for around 20 seconds.

Freiburg then lodged a protest with the DFB sports court, and Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann publicly criticized this step.

Kahn now stood behind his coach.

Oliver Rolf Kahn

Born: June 15, 1969 (age 52), Karlsruhe

Height: 1.88 m

End of career: 2008

Clubs as players: Karlsruher SC (1987 - 1994), FC Bayern (1994 - 2008)

FC Bayern: Oliver Kahn comments on the change breakdown

"We are convinced that we didn't make a mistake there," he said on the DAZN microphone (the votes for the Villarreal game are here).

This statement is surprising, because a mistake by Bayern is obvious: team manager Kathleen Krüger had sent the wrong number for Kingsley Coman (29 instead of 11), who was supposed to be substituted.

As a result, the Frenchman didn't feel addressed and stayed on the field while Marcel Sabitzer entered the pitch.

Krüger's mishap was the trigger for the breakdown, but she is not solely responsible for it.

Because it is primarily the referees (especially the fourth official) who are responsible for counting again before the game continues.

"It's a faux pas by the referee team, which shouldn't happen like this," said DFB referee observer Knut Kircher, referee instructor Lutz Wagner and other colleagues agreed.

FC Bayern: Kathleen Krüger caused chaos with mistakes

The sports court decides whether FC Bayern can expect a penalty.

"We totally trust the sports jurisdiction and we'll see what comes out," Kahn explained calmly.

There is no question that FC Bayern made a mistake in the person of Krüger - even if Kahn does not admit it.

The DFB decides whether this error has to have consequences.

Two paragraphs in the set of rules come into question: paragraph 17, paragraph 4 of the legal and procedural rules of the DFB* and football rule 3, paragraph 7. The first paragraph regulates the use of a “player who is not authorized to play or be used”.

However, this will probably not be used, since Kingsley Coman* was a fundamentally eligible player.

Punishment for FC Bayern after a mistake in the change?

tz.de takes a close look at the rules

It is more likely that the second paragraph will be applied, which deals with "illegally entering the field of play by a team official, a substitute, a player who has been sent off or a third party".

If the court uses this paragraph, FC Bayern will probably not face a penalty, because the team of referees is responsible for complying with the “soccer rules”.

Referee Felix Zwayer, who was the video referee in the game, noted: "The statutes do not regulate how this is to be dealt with." According to the referee experts from "Collinas Erben", two things will be decisive for the court: On the one hand, whether the case had a significant impact on the game, on the other hand, whether FC Bayern should be fully blamed.

Since both questions can be answered objectively with a "no", a penalty for FC Bayern seems unlikely.

It is still unclear when the DFB sports court will make a decision.
