Not everything was always nice in Julian Nagelsmann's life, the Bayern coach recently spoke about the early loss of his father at the age of 20.

Munich – Julian Nagelsmann is anything but an ordinary coach.

He was already on the sidelines as a full-time Bundesliga coach at the age of 28, only six years later he switched to FC Bayern Munich*.

The football coach, who was prevented from a larger playing career due to injury, did not have an easy time in his early adult life.

The early death of his father was a stroke of fate for his family, and the Bayern coach recently spoke about his loss in an interview.

FC Bayern: Trainer Julian Nagelsmann talks about a personal topic during a mountain bike interview

Nagelsmann* has a lot of press appointments, especially as a Bayern trainer, one of them led the native of Landsberg to the Isar.

During the Amazon Prime interview with moderator Sebastian Hellmann, he cycled along the river on his mountain bike. The 34-year-old often spoke freely of his soul and also got personal.

When Hellmann goes over a picture of Julian Nagelsmann with a mobile phone filter that simulates appearance in old age, he is amazed.

"If I were to show you a photo now, it looks exactly like my father," Nagelsmann stated.

Hellmann, who lost his father at the age of 29, then spoke to Nagelsmann about the sensitive subject.

FC Bayern: Nagelsmann's father advised him to do "something solid" - but he wanted to become a coach

“What concerns me the most is that dad never noticed that I became a coach.

Neither in the youth nor in the professional area and then at 34 as a Bayern Munich coach,” says Nagelsmann, visibly touched.

If his father had had his way, he would probably have chosen a different path in life, he says.

Because back then his father had advised him: "Don't study sports, do something solid.

Soccer pro is no more.

Don't do sports, you don't just want to work in the gym, that won't fulfill you.

So I said: 'I'll try something different, I want to be a coach.'

So he said it would be a bit difficult at my age.”

FC Bayern: Nagelsmann ended his career due to injury - and defied his father's advice

But it should come as Nagelsmann Junior had imagined.

Because after meniscus and cartilage damage and the risk of osteoarthritis, he had to end his career in 2008, when he was playing in the second team of FC Augsburg*.

Shortly after his retirement, at the age of 20, he lost his father.

The hardest time in his life so far.

While he was still in Augsburg, he acquired his subject-specific higher education entrance qualification and then studied business administration up to an intermediate diploma.

Nagelsmann then began distance learning in the field of 'sports and applied training theory', which he completed in 2011 with a bachelor's degree.

At the same time, he was promoted to assistant coach of the U17s at TSV 1860 via a job as an Augsburg scout and switched to the U17s of TSG Hoffenheim, where he was trained as a Bundesliga coach via the U19s and as an assistant to the first team.

He made his first division debut in 2016 and saved TSG from relegation before joining RB Leipzig in 2019.

FC Bayern: Nagelsmann talks about the loss of his father – one point is particularly painful

Also due to the many positive experiences it is still not easy for him that his father was not able to celebrate his successes.

"And that he doesn't realize that I've become a coach and am now a Bayern coach, those are sad moments.

Sure, Champions League semi-finals with Leipzig, you go to a stadium and wish your dad was sitting upstairs, happy and proud," says Nagelsmann, who is now a father of two himself.
