Videos from the end of the game show the Portuguese star, who presented a weak and disappointing game once again, violently taking over a cellphone of a fan who photographed him descending into the locker room, and immediately stepping on it and smashing it.
The disturbing documentation caused a stir in England, Manchester United opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and late in the evening Ronaldo posted an apology on his Instagram account.
"It's never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the one we face," Ronaldo wrote.
"Even so, we should always respect, be patient and set an example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game. I want to apologize for my outburst and if possible, I would love to invite the fan to watch the game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportiness."

But even the incident does not reassure the family of the fan, a teenage boy.
The boy's mother uploaded to social media a picture of the smashed phone next to a picture of the boy's hand, in which she looks bruised and with blue marks.

The mother wrote that she had filed a complaint against Ronaldo with the police and explained: "An evening of great play ended when my son and I were at the police station. I can not believe I said that, but Ronaldo just took my phone from my hand and crushed it while he filmed it coming off the pitch after the final whistle. From the fact that a professional footballer, a star of his size, is capable of attacking an innocent child like that. If anyone has a video where you can see it, send it to me on Instagram. These football players are bullies! To his child? "
