The Israeli swimming team opened today (Saturday) its performances at the Stockholm Open Championships with two silver medals won by Anastasia Gurbanko and David Grechik.
The world champion Gorbenko, who recently enlisted and returned to training ahead of this year's big events, set a personal record in the 200 free with 1: 58.62 minutes, with only Germany's Isabel Gossa ahead of her with 1: 57.47 minutes.
Grechik set 1: 59.85, second only to European medalist Apostolos Hristo of Greece, who set 1: 57.99 minutes.
In the 200 backstroke, there was complete Israeli dominance, with no less than four blue-and-white swimmers qualifying for the finals.
Yaakov Tomarkin finished fourth with 2: 02.73 fourth, Eitan Ben Sheetrit sixth with a personal best of 2: 04.48 fourth and Adam Maraana eighth with 2: 07.49 fourth (in qualifying 2: 05.57).
On the first day of the competitions, Miron Heruti finished Friday in the 50 butterfly final with 24.03 s, Noga Zilberberg 16 in the 200 freestyle with 2: 06.82 d (qualifiers 2: 05.92) and Eitan Ben Sheetrit 16 in the 400 freestyle with 4: 05.53 d. (In the qualifiers a personal best of 4: 01.29).
Chris Pitchogin finished 18th in the 200 breaststroke with 2: 23.97 d.
