During his tour of the countries qualifying for the Asian Basketball Finals, the championship cup arrived in Syria today, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Asian Football Confederation, Agop Khajrian.
In a statement to SANA, the head of the Basketball Association, Tarif Qutrash, said that the cup round against the qualified countries is a good gesture from the AFC, and his arrival in Syria is a message for the return of basketball to its normal state, as our team is ranked among the 16 best teams in Asia.
Qutrash added: The cup was placed in front of the Umayyad Mosque because of this place of great place in the history of Syria, pointing out that our ambition is to win this cup, which is a task that is not impossible despite the strength of the teams that we will face and we will prepare well for the upcoming finals within specific work programmes.
The Secretary-General of the Asian Basketball Federation, Hagop two outsiders, drew attention to the good results achieved by the Syrian team, which led it to the Asian finals, indicating that the Syrian basketball is witnessing a new start, and the AFC will continue to support it to raise its level further, especially since it witnessed brilliance in previous years.
Our national team player, Anthony Bakr, expressed his happiness for this initiative, the first of its kind, through the cup tour to the capitals of the qualifying countries, indicating that the team will spare no effort in order to present the Syrian basket in the best way and achieve remarkable results in the way of competition to achieve the dream and win the title.
The Asian Championship will be held next July in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, after it was postponed from last August due to the Corona virus.
Our team booked its place in the tournament by defeating Qatar in the third window matches of the Asian qualifiers for the fifth group, to book the second place behind the Iranian team.
