The Clermont Foot striker was given a two-month suspended prison sentence for "drunk driving" and "involuntary injury

Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo was given a two-month suspended prison sentence at a preliminary plea hearing (CRPC) on Tuesday for “drunk driving” and “unintentional injury” by the judicial court of Clermont-Ferrand, learned AFP from the prosecution.

As part of this procedure, the Guinean international striker of Clermont Foot accepted the sentence proposed by the prosecution.

He was originally due to appear in June before the criminal court where he risked a heavier sentence.

The Clermontois was also sentenced to a fine of 4,000 euros and the suspension of his driving license, said the public prosecutor of Clermont-Ferrand Éric Maillaud.

Bayo, 23, was taken into custody on October 24 after a collision with another car in Chamalières (Puy-de-Dôme).

Driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.88 g/l, he was recognized after trying to flee and arrested by the police.

The couple in the other vehicle were slightly injured in the accident.

He then publicly apologized on social media.

He initially assumed that he had

 shown an irresponsible attitude

 ”

without denying the reasons for his imprisonment: “At the time of the accident, I panicked, I was afraid of the consequences.

Far from being lucid, I initially left the scene, but I wanted to help the victims and come back to assume.

 He

then added.

“I assume my mistakes, I assume my responsibility, and I wish from the bottom of my heart to offer my sincere apologies to the injured, their families, their loved ones.

But also to my club, my teammates, my coach and his staff, to the city of Clermont, to my family

 .

An essential scorer for Clermont Foot, Mohamed Bayo helped raise his club to the top flight last spring.

With a total of ten goals for 25 games played, L2's top scorer in 2020/21 (22 goals), remains the key attacking element of Pascal Gastien's team to ensure its maintenance in Ligue 1.
