Good end, all is well: Judoka, who was forced to return his Olympic bronze medal from Tokyo because it peeled off, got it refurbished this morning

All is well that ends well.

As first reported in "Israel Today", judoka Sagi Muki, who was forced to return the Olympic medal from Tokyo after she peeled no less and no more, won today (Wednesday) to have it refurbished.

Just six months after the great achievement, former world champion Sagi Muki, who competes in the weight category up to 81 kg, was forced to return the medal to the organizers, after discovering that its color was starting to peel off, all without touching it at all.

Muki told Israel Today at the time: "I probably got a broken medal, all the paint on the medal went down. I did not pour water on it and did nothing in it that should not be done, just the paint went down with time. It also lay inside the box, properly kept , And I hardly took it out.

"I saw publications that I was not the first to have this happen and I decided to look into the matter. I turned to the Israeli Olympic Committee, and they talked to the Japanese, who wanted to return the medal. They said they would fix it and probably repaint it."

This was not the first case with the same problem, after the Chinese Sheingig, the Olympic champion on the trampoline, also claimed that her gold medal had begun to peel off.

Sheingig uploaded photos of the medal to the Chinese social network Weibo in which it can be seen that on the left side there are indeed peeling marks.

Her message said: "Let me clarify something, I did not mean to peel the medal, just one day I saw it. At first I thought it was dirt, so I rubbed my finger and saw that it remained. Only after I touched again, the peeling widened."

The organizers of the games in Tokyo denied that it was a defective medal and claimed that what was supposedly peeled off from Sheingig's medal is a substance that actually protects it instead of the real gold that is underneath.

"This material is intended to prevent stains and scratches, and it does not impair the quality of the medal," the organizing committee said.
