In an exciting duel, Real Madrid prevailed against Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Unlike his ex-colleagues from FC Bayern, David Alaba moves into the next round.
Madrid – While his former colleagues from FC Bayern experienced a used evening in the Champions League, David Alaba can be happy about reaching the semifinals.
Champions League: Chelsea furios - but Real fights its way into the semifinals
The Austrian from Real Madrid was on the pitch for the full 120 minutes against Chelsea in what is probably the most exciting game of the Champions League season so far and fought to stay in the competition.
After the 3:1 win in the first leg for the Spaniards, that felt safe.
But the blues played furiously.
Chelsea were 3-0 after 75 minutes.
With that, Real would have been out.
Germans were involved in all three goals.
Timo Werner made it 1-0 for Mason Mount.
Then Antonio Rüdiger (2:0) and Werner (3:0) increased.
But the Madrilenians could not be written off that quickly.
Thanks to Rodrygo's goal in the 80th minute, Real saved themselves in extra time, in which Karim Benzema then secured progress with the 2-3.
Despite the narrow defeat, the royals were of course overjoyed at catching up in the final stages and in the semi-finals.
Real Madrid: David Alaba celebrates progress in the Champions League – "Are you stupid!"
How wild the game was was also shown after the game when David Alaba found it difficult to find words in an interview with Sky: “Are you stupid!
It's difficult to say how to describe the game.
Chelsea got off to a brutal start.” But the ex-Bayern and his new teammates kept their cool: “At the end of the day we knew that we could call on a willpower.
We then kept calm and never stopped believing in ourselves.”
Now, of course, the title is Real Madrid's goal again: "We're very, very happy that we got over it.
The character in the team and the belief in making the impossible possible is so great.”
In the next round, the Madrilenians will either meet Manchester City or there will be a derby against Atletico Madrid.
The English won the first leg 1-0.
Alaba is certain: "In the semi-finals, it will depend on the little things.
It will not be an easy task, no matter what comes.” (md)
