Danny Abdia in Israel (Kobi Eliyahu)

After Brooklyn and Minnesota secured their place in the playoffs, the NBA play-off tournament continued tonight (Wednesday through Thursday) with two games ranked 9th and 10th in the East and West.

Atlanta defeated Charlotte and will face Cleveland for the decisive battle for a playoff ticket, and in the West it will be New Orleans that will face the Clippers, after defeating San Antonio.

Atlanta (9) - Charlotte (10) 103: 132 (The Hawks advance to the decisive game against Cleveland)

Trey Young and the Hawks smell a playoff, and upgrade themselves.

The Hawks star struggled early in the game after the Hornets sent him a double save with every touch of the ball, but recovered and was released later, en route to 24 points and 11 assists that marched the home team to a fairly leisurely victory.

Diandra Hunter who also excelled with 22 points and 7 rebounds was the deciding factor behind Atlanta's escape in the third quarter, from which the Hornets did not recover and were eliminated in play no year in a row.

Amalou Ball had the bright spot for Charlotte with 26 points and eight assists that sealed a great personal season for him, but the bottom line is the Hawks are the ones to host Cleveland on Friday night, for a game that will determine who gets the eighth ticket to the playoffs in the East and meets Miami in the first round.

New Orleans (9) - San Antonio (10) 103: 113

The Pelicans on their way back to the playoffs after four years?

The game against the Clippers between Friday and Saturday will be decisive.

Whoever made the difference for them tonight was CJ McCollum, a veteran fighting fox who was brought in during the season just for moments like this.

The experienced shooting guard sniped 32 points, added 7 assists and 6 rebounds and along with Brandon Ingram (27 and 5 assists) and Jonas Valencionas (22 and 14 rebounds) made sure the home team’s slight advantage became a double-digit lead towards the end.

New Orleans knows a win over the Clippers will be worth the eighth ticket to the playoffs in the West and a meeting with Phoenix in the first round.

San Antonio and Greg Popovic, on the other hand, are finishing the season just as they were last season, with a loss in the first playoff game, and are left without a playoff ticket for the third year in a row.

Devin Wassel led the loser with 23, Jonathon Marie slightly disappointed with 16 points on just 5-19 from the field.
