The knockout mode applies to the semifinals: Whoever wins here moves directly into the final game of the Ice Hockey World Championship on May 29th, 2022.
The losers play for bronze.
Tampere in Finland - The Ice Hockey World Championship will take place between 13.05.2022 and 29.05.2022 in Finland.
The 2022 semifinals will be held on May 28, 2022.
This date decides which teams can make it to the final and hope for the world title.
But first, all 16 participating teams have to survive the preliminary round.
For the group stage of the tournament, the teams were divided into two groups.

The four best move into the quarter-finals and meet there for the first time from opponents from the other group.
In this round, the first in a group and the fourth in the other group or the second in a group and the third in the other group meet each other.
Ice Hockey World Championship: In the 2022 semi-finals, knockout mode applies
At the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland, the most successful teams will advance to the quarter-finals after the group phase.
As always, the knockout system applies in the 2022 semi-finals: In contrast to the group phase, a lost game means the end.
The quarter-finals will take place on May 26, 2022, at 3:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. respectively.
The teams that emerge victorious from these games advance to the semi-finals two days later.
The venue for the semi-finals is the Nokia Arena in Tampere, which will be the main venue throughout the tournament.
Another venue for the tournament is the Helsingin Jäähalli in the Finnish capital Helsinki.
In the first semi-final at 1:20 p.m. on May 28, 2022, the winners of quarter-final 1 and quarter-final 2 will meet.
At 5:20 p.m. on the same day, the winners of quarter-finals three and quarter-finals four will face off on the ice.
Anyone who loses here will play again despite their defeat on May 29, 2022: In the match for third place, it will be decided whether the loser from the first or from the second semi-final will take third place at the Ice Hockey World Championship 2022.
