This outburst of anger will be expensive: Miles Bridges, basketball professional with the Charlotte Hornets in the American NBA, after missing the playoffs in the game at the Atlanta Hawks (103:132), in a fit of rage threw his mouthguard in the direction of the spectators – and hit a woman .
The North American basketball professional league NBA imposed a fine of 50,000 US dollars for the freak out.
It is the highest individual penalty the NBA has imposed on a player for a misdemeanor this season.
The 24-year-old power forward was sent off the field for two technical fouls.
Bridges had described his actions after the game as "unacceptable" and asked that someone put him "in contact with the young lady".
Only one has accumulated more penalties
While Miles Bridges received the highest single penalty, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Patrick Beverley had an even heavier cumulative penalty for multiple offenses this week.
The 33-year-old guard has been fined $30,000 for "inappropriate language," including the "egregious use of profanity," following Tuesday's Timberwolves playoff against his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers.
Just two days earlier, Beverley had been fined $25,000 for improper behavior by a referee in the last regular-season game against the Chicago Bulls.
