Dutch Cup Final Summary: PSV Eindhoven - Ajax 1: 2 (Sport 1)

PSV Eindhoven players celebrated long on the pitch after winning tonight (Sunday) the Dutch Cup in a great 1: 2 over Ajax.

Roger Schmidt's side trailed 1-0 from a Ryan Harpenberg goal in the 23rd minute, but managed to turn in two minutes at the start of the second half from goals from Eric Gutierrez (48) and Cody Gakpo (50).

The team from the capital exerted heavy pressure but failed to achieve the equalizer, when three goals were disqualified for it, while on the other side also a goal by Eran Zehavi was disqualified (11).

Leaving aside the Johan Cruyff Cup win, which is a pre-season tournament, this is Eindhoven's first significant title since winning the 2018 championship.

PSV has not won the trophy since 2012, and has now completed its tenth factory win - ten years since the previous hoist.

As for Zehavi, he celebrated a bachelor's degree outside of Israel, and for the first time won a cup or championship since the 2014/15 season, when he was still playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

, who completed PSV's turnaround at the end of a big operation that repeated the scoring moment: "I cut to the middle and kicked to the near corner. I had space to make it happen. They were less dominant than usual, and we knew we could score if we increased the intensity a bit "And that's what we really did. We fought for it for years. Europe, Cup, League - we finally won the prize. And it deserved it."

On the other hand, Ajax had a hard time accepting the loss and the loss of the title they held and from which they will have to part.

Team coach Eric Tan Brother came with complaints to the refereeing final: "We played against more than 11 players. Sometimes there are forces that are hard to deal with. I'm not talking about just arbitrary decisions."

As you may recall, Ajax were disqualified for two goals in the game.
