Arminia Bielefeld's midfielder Fabian Kunze suffered a contusion of his spine and shoulder at the weekend.
This was announced by the East Westphalian Bundesliga soccer team on Monday.
Kunze was hit in the game against FC Bayern Munich on Sunday (0: 3) by his opponent Tanguy Nianzou in a duel in the air with his arm in the head and neck area.
He was then treated for a long time and then taken off the field on a stretcher.
The 23-year-old was then examined in the hospital.
Nianzou only saw yellow for the action and was substituted in the second half.
"An educational measure," said Bayern coach Nagelsmann after the game.
"That was a red card for me, I'll be honest."
Kunze is now to be treated further by the club's physio team.
For Arminia Bielefeld, Kunze's injury was just one in a series of serious head and facial injuries.
Club record scorer Fabian Klos was hit first, then defender Cédric Brunner and finally Kunze.
As a result, Klos even had to have an operation.
However, the club did not announce an exact diagnosis.
"A lot is being asked of us at the moment," said coach Frank Kramer.
»But you can also come out of it stronger by saying: Okay, if fate packs a few things in our rucksacks, then we will counteract them even more resolutely and move even closer together.
That's how we have to approach the next game in Cologne."
It is still open whether one of the three injured in aerial duels will be able to play again this season.
"Cedi and Fabi Klos are on the mend again and that's the most important thing," said Captain Manuel Prietl after all.
Arminia Bielefeld is currently on the penultimate place in the table and is three points behind a non-relegation zone.
