Three SpVgg Bayreuth players were brutally beaten the night after the win against FC Bayern II.

The police are investigating with high pressure.

Bayreuth - "It could have been the best football festival in the last 35 years," begins SpVgg Bayreuth in its statement on the Easter Monday incidents.

A brutal beating attack on three players now overshadows the 4-0 win against the amateurs of FC Bayern Munich.

In the regional league top game against the FCB-Reserve, Bayreuth had put on a playful firework display and brought in a preliminary decision in the championship race in front of a sold-out house.

After that, partying was allowed.

"Clear message from the trainer: today you're going to really go for it," reports Bayreuth's media officer Andreas Bär.

The team moved to the city in a small circle, accompanied by friends and families.

Beating attack after the game against FC Bayern Munich: Two Bayreuth players in the intensive care unit

In the late evening, the celebrating team went to the “Fabrik” club in downtown Bayreuth.

The nightclub was actually closed, but it belongs to a former SpVgg Bayreuth player.

He had his key with him and spontaneously unlocked the door for the private round.

At around 3 a.m., three players were attacked on Erlanger Strasse.

They were brutally beaten.

"Two players had to be taken to the intensive care unit," said the SpVgg, the third player remained in the hospital for observation due to head injuries.

The police confirmed the incident and fortunately added on Wednesday: "All the injured players have now been able to leave the hospital.

"It was brute force": Unknown people kicked regional league players while they were still on the ground

SpVgg Bayreuth does not want to announce the names of the players on medical advice.

You may not be in the hospital anymore, but you need rest.

They want to prevent calls from acquaintances and the press.

"In the preliminary report for the game on Friday we will probably name them if the boys are doing well and they give the okay," promises Bär.

The incident on Monday evening shocked the regional league club.

Andreas Bär says he has never heard of an escalation of violence of this kind in Germany.

When a player was still on the ground, the suspects are said to have kicked him.

"I've seen photos: two rounds against Klitschko and you don't look worse.

That was brute force,” reports Bär.

The club and the police are currently assuming four attackers.

However, they were able to escape before the police arrived.

"The Bayreuth city police are investigating at high pressure because of dangerous bodily harm and are asking for your help: Witnesses who observed the altercation on Erlanger Strasse early Tuesday morning are asked to contact the Bayreuth city police on tel. no.

0921/506-2130," the press office announced.

Perpetrators probably not fans of FC Bayern: SpVgg Bayreuth suspects no connection to the top game

SpVgg Bayreuth does not assume that the beating attack is related to FC Bayern Munich: the four suspects were probably in the city center by chance and would have chosen their victims at random.

"We want to say: That sucks!" Bär makes clear, "Regardless of whether it hit footballers.

We want to keep the manhunt pressure high, which is why we report the incident unembellished.”
