The ATP has described the Wimbledon and British Championships' decision to exclude players from Russia and Belarus from participating in this year's tournaments as unfair and could set a harmful precedent for the game.
Reuters quoted the federation as saying in a statement today that discrimination on the basis of nationality violates our agreement with Wimbledon that states that a player's participation depends solely on the association's rankings, adding, "It is important to emphasize that Russian and Belarus players will continue to be allowed to compete in the ATP tournaments under A neutral flag.
The All England Club, organizer of Wimbledon, one of the four major tennis tournaments, announced earlier that the players of Russia and Belarus would be banned from participating in this year's edition due to the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
