Manchester United have unveiled a new manager for the coming season.
As expected, the 52-year-old Dutchman Erik ten Hag will succeed interim coach Ralf Rangnick in the summer.
This was confirmed by the Premier League club.
Rangnick, who will remain at the club as an advisor, is said to have campaigned for ten Hag's commitment.
Ten Hag comes from reigning Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam.
With the club he has been Dutch champion twice (2019, 2021), won the Dutch Cup twice (2019, 2021) and surprisingly reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with a young team in 2019.
Ajax lead the Eredivisie table by four points, four points ahead of PSV Eindhoven.
Ten Hag has been given a contract until 2025 with an option for a further year.
Ten Hag promises success
Ten Hag, coach of the second team in the regional league at FC Bayern from 2013 to 2015, spoke of a "great honor".
He was "determined to develop a team that will deliver the success" that United fans deserve.
Leaving Ajax after four and a half "incredible" years is "difficult," he confessed.
"Over the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proven to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, known for his team's attractive attacking football and commitment to youth," United director John Murtough wrote in a statement Club Homepage .
Manchester United are currently in a slump and are in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League.
On Tuesday, the weakened team lost 4-0 at Liverpool FC.
Rangnick then called for extensive changes in the club's transfer policy.
Ten Hag will become the fifth manager in nine years at Manchester United, who won their last of 20 league titles in 2013.
