Ice Hockey World Championship 2022: Group A - mode, teams, dates, favorites

The group phase of the Ice Hockey World Championship lasts from May 13th, 2022 to May 24th, 2022. After that, the quarter-final phase begins.

Helsinki in Finland - A total of 16 nations are taking part in the Top Division at the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland.

These teams play first in two groups.

In group A there are eight teams that compete against each other in the preliminary round.

The German national ice hockey team is also in Group A, along with these teams:

• Canada

• Switzerland

• Slovakia

• Denmark

• Kazakhstan

• Italy

• France

In the preliminary round, all teams have to play against each other in a duel.

This means that each team takes on the ice once against every other team in their group before the best progress to the quarter-finals.

The losers of the group stage are relegated to the lower divisions.

Only then will the teams that were previously in Group B be played.

The prestigious ice sports event takes place at several venues in Finland, more precisely in Helsinki and in Tampere.

The main venue is the Nokia Arena in Tampere;

another venue is the Helsingin Jäähalli in the Finnish capital.

Group A at the Ice Hockey World Championship: Dates at the beginning of the group phase

The first game of Group A at the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2022 will take place on May 13, 2022 at 3:20 p.m.: France and Slovakia will play against each other.

On the same day at 7:20 p.m. Germany and Canada are on the ice.

The next day, the game between Denmark and Kazakhstan continues at 11:20 a.m.

Four hours later, Switzerland and Italy play each other, and at 19:20 the German team has to play again;

this time against Slovakia.

On May 15, 2022, the games Italy vs. Canada (11:20 a.m.), France vs. Kazakhstan (3:20 p.m.) and Denmark vs. Switzerland (7:20 p.m.) are scheduled.

The following day, the teams from Slovakia and Canada will face each other on the ice at 3:20 p.m., and at 7:20 p.m. the German team will once again be at the start against France.

2022 has the games Italy against Denmark (3:20 p.m.) and Switzerland against Kazakhstan (7:20 p.m.) on the schedule.

On May 18, 2022, Italy and France will meet at 3:20 p.m.

Four hours later it is Canada and Kazakhstan's turn.

At the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships, the German team will be in Group A on May 19, 2022 at 3:20 p.m. against Denmark.

Canada and Kazakhstan also play against each other on this day.

The next day it is the German team's turn against Italy, and later Kazakhstan and Slovakia will play each other.

On May 21, 2022 at 11:20 a.m. Denmark and France will come into action.

Later it will be Canada and Switzerland, as well as Italy and Slovakia.

May 22nd, 2022 means another assignment for the German team, namely against Kazakhstan at 3:20 p.m.

In the evening of the same day, France and the Swiss play against each other.

May 23, 2022 includes the games Italy vs Kazakhstan and Canada vs Denmark.

The end of the group phase for Group A will take place on 05/24/2022.

Here are three more matches scheduled:

Germany will play Switzerland, Slovakia will play Denmark and Canada will play France.

The favorites in Group A are Canada, with 27 world championship titles, and Switzerland, which finished second at the last World Cup and was sixth in the world rankings before the Ice Hockey World Cup.

The top duel in Group A will take place on May 21, 2022.
