Darmstadt 98 slowed down FC St. Pauli and even advanced to the promotion relegation place of the 2nd Bundesliga.
In the chasing duel, the guests won 2-1 (2-0) in Hamburg on Saturday and closed the table with 54 points to Werder Bremen (57 points) and Schalke 04 (56).
St. Pauli (53) is only fourth after the fourth winless game in a row.
The crisis comes at a bad time.
For the first time since the sixth match day, St. Pauli is not in one of the top three places.
And because it also has the rest of the program in itself, the club now has to worry about its chances of promotion.
The Hamburgers still have to deal with two direct competitors (Nuremberg and Schalke) and Düsseldorf.
In front of almost 30,000 spectators in the sold-out Millerntor Stadium, Luca Pfeiffer (9th minute) and Fabian Holland (35th) scored for the 98ers, who after their defeats against Nuremberg (1: 3) and Schalke (2: 5) once again scored top -Could win matches.
St. Pauli missed revenge for the 0:4 in the first leg and instead conceded the second home defeat, which Lukas Daschner's goal (81st) did not change.
Hamburger Sturm und Drang in the closing stages
The hosts actually had the better chances.
In the final minutes, the equalizer seemed particularly close, St. Pauli pushed Darmstadt deep into their own half, but ultimately did not do enough with their own superiority.
Pfeiffer had previously scored his 14th goal of the season after precise preparatory work by Phillip Tietz.
Holland's goal was then spectacular, he shot the ball from a tight angle with great force into the far corner.
St. Pauli had good chances before the break through Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (14') and Etienne Amenyido (24'), after the break substitute Daschner missed two chances (54'/63') before scoring to make it 1-2 .
Then the Hamburg assault began in the final phase, but remained without profit.
