Former Bundesliga coach Thomas Doll is moving to Indonesia.

The 56-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Persija Jakarta until the summer of 2025.

This was officially announced by the Indonesian first division club on Saturday.

"It's an honor for me to go to one of the big teams in Indonesia," Doll is quoted as saying in a club statement.

He also assumes the duties of a manager.

Doll introduced himself to the supporters of his new club in a video message.

The eleven-time Indonesian champions ended the past season in eighth place, 30 points behind champions Bali United.

Star of the team is Marko Šimić.

The former Croatia U21 international scored 14 goals last season.

Most successful time at HSV

For Doll, without a club since his departure from the Cypriot record champions APOEL Nicosia in December 2019, it is the next station in his coaching career.

The former international has previously worked in Hungary, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

In Germany, Doll coached Borussia Dortmund, Hannover 96 and Hamburger SV.

There he also had his most successful time, reaching third place in the table and qualifying for the Champions League.

Title collector in Hungary

At Ferencváros Budapest, Doll had won the double as a coach in 2016, and in 2015 and 2017 he also won the cup.

As an active player, he had played 29 international matches for the GDR and 18 for the DFB-Elf. In 1992 the then midfielder from Lazio Rome finished second in the European Championship with the national team.
