Handball cup final: THW Kiel wins against SC Magdeburg

In a gripping cup final in Hamburg, THW Kiel wears down the current table leader SC Magdeburg 28:21. Even five goals in a row could not faze the Kielers.

THW Kiel has won the German Handball Cup for the twelfth time in its club history.

In front of 13,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Hamburger Volkspark, the record winner beat Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg at 28:21 (12:13).

The best scorers in the final were Sander Sagosen with eight goals for Kiel and Omar Ingi Magnusson with seven goals for Magdeburg.

After a balanced start, the people of Kiel initially gained a larger lead.

The Norwegian Sagosen scored 9:6 (20th) after good saves by THW goalkeeper Niklas Landin.

However, the SCM countered in the following six minutes with a 5:0 run to 11:9.

Kiel relied on the seventh field player for long stretches.

Sagosen in particular put a lot of pressure on the Magdeburg defense.

On the other side, Icelanders Magnusson and Gisli Kristjansson provided the accents with their quick attacks.

In the course of the second half, the north Germans gained advantages again and were in the lead again with two goals at 19:17 (43 rd ).

Circle player Hendrik Pekeler increased the lead to 22:19 in the 48th minute.

That was the preliminary decision.
