The relief is great.
Vaterstetten
– “We are very happy to have fired the first shot.
It gets on my nerves.” Coach Tobias Graf was clearly happy and relieved after the state league duel of the Vaterstetten women's handball team.
With a 30:29 (20:16) win against HSG Würm-Mitte II, his team had crossed the finish line early.
Before the two final games this Thursday against TSV Herrsching (8:45 p.m., Halle Humboldt-Gymnasium) and next Saturday, TSVV already has relegation “in an incredibly balanced league” in the bag.
"It's reassuring to be out of the relegation battle now," said the TSVV head coach.
"We can't get any worse than third." And with that, you've achieved both your goals, staying up in the league and a place in the top three.
"That's really great.
If you consider the situation in the league and the whole Corona mess during the season, we have to be happy and grateful," emphasized Graf.
Because before the first of three catch-up games within five days, the second in the table could not be sure of playing another year in the national league.
“Three defeats against Würm, Herrsching and Biessenhofen would have meant relegation.
But we knew that if we were to stay in class, one win would be enough.” Mainly because it came against a direct opponent – after an intense and gripping thriller.
Up to 6:7 (13 th ) they were chasing a deficit, then it got “really good”.
Graf's team turned up the heat and turned the game around, leading by four goals at the change of ends.
After the break, the TSVV became more stable at the back, but failed too often at the front from the third division experienced Würm goalkeeper Zoe Chioato and caught the 25:25 (49th).
"The sheer will" (Graf) and energetic performances by Sara Broß and Verena Taenzler in attack nevertheless secured the 30:29 triumph and the state league.
