18.21 Uhr: Der Schiedsrichter der Partie ist heute übrigens Frank Willenborg aus Osnabrück. Der 43-Jährige leitete in dieser Saison bereits ein Spiel mit Bremer Beteiligung: Anfang Februar beim 2:1-Sieg der Grün-Weißen gegen den Karlsruher SC. Assistiert wird Willenborg im Weserstadion von Christian Bandurski (Oberhausen) und Fabian Porsch (Barsbüttel), vierter Offizieller ist Robin Braun (Wuppertal). Im „Kölner Keller“ sitzen die Video-Assistenten Tobias Welz (Wiesbaden) und Asmir Osmanagic (Stuttgart).

18.18 Uhr: Werder muss heute in der Dreierkette erneut auf eine Not-Abwehr setzen, da in Milos Veljkovic und Ömer Toprak weiterhin zwei Stamm-Innenverteidiger ausfallen. Die Aushilfs-Dreierkette um Nicolai Rapp, Marco Friedl und Anthony Jung zeigte in der vergangenen Woche auf Schalke allerdings eine bärenstarke Leistung. Den Fans muss also trotz der Ausfälle durchaus nicht Angst und Bange werden.

18.14 Uhr: Der Bremer Trainer, der gemeinhin auch eher als nüchterner Mensch beschrieben wird, zeigt sich im Sky-Gespräch vor dem Spiel allerdings begeistert vom Fan-Empfang der Werder-Fans. „Das war ein außergewöhnlicher Moment“, sagt Ole Werner. Die Unterstützung sei bereits in der Vergangenheit überragend gewesen, auch heute könne die Stimmung das Team beflügeln. Vergleiche zum Aufstiegskampf mit Holstein Kiel will der 33-Jährige aber nicht ziehen. Mit den „Störchen“ war Werner in der Vorsaison aus ebenfalls aussichtsreicher Position im Aufstiegsrennen gescheitert, doch in diesem Jahr „ist das eine andere Situation“.

Nach dem furiosen 4:1-Sieg gegen Schalke 04 wollen die Grün-Weißen die Tabellenführung gegen den Ex-Club von Trainer Ole Werner unbedingt behalten und den nächsten Dreier einfahren. Ganz am Ende, da kamen die ganz harten Fragen. Ole Werner hatte die digitale Pressekonferenz vor dem Heimspiel gegen Holstein Kiel (Freitag, 18.30 Uhr, DeichStube-Live-Ticker) eigentlich schon hinter sich gebracht, da musste der Cheftrainer des SV Werder Bremen noch eine Extra-Schicht einlegen. Aufgrund des Girls‘ und Boys‘ Days am Donnerstag hatten sich einige Nachwuchs-Journalisten eingeklinkt, die nun ihren großen Auftritt hatten – und so musste Werner urplötzlich über seine Urlaubsplanung sprechen. „Das ist eine sehr aktuelle und eine sehr gute Frage, die noch nicht abschließend beantwortet ist“, erklärte der 33-Jährige lachend. „Und sie hängt natürlich auch davon ab, wann die Saison bei uns beendet ist. Auf jeden Fall geht es ins Warme, irgendwo in Richtung Süden. Etwas anderes kriege ich nicht durchgesetzt, aber das ist mir auch selbst ganz lieb.“

Während einige Details also noch im privaten Rahmen ausbaldowert werden müssen, kann Werner die Suche nach dem richtigen Zeitpunkt der Abreise ganz wesentlich mit seiner Mannschaft beeinflussen. Rauscht der Tabellenführer nämlich ohne Umwege – also Relegation – zum Aufstieg, kann auch der Urlaub entsprechend früher beginnen. Die andere Option für einen baldigen Termin wäre ein Sturz aus dem Aufstiegsrennen, aber mit diesem Gedanken will sich an der Weser niemand wirklich anfreunden.

Seit dem berauschenden 4:1-Erfolg auf Schalke herrscht bei Werder Bremen ohnehin wieder eine besondere Atmosphäre. Die Euphorie ist endgültig zurück, zwischen Stadt und Team gibt es erneut diesen ganz speziellen Schulterschluss. „Es lässt mich nicht kalt, wenn uns tausende Fans vor dem Stadion empfangen. Das sind Momente, in denen man eine Gänsehaut hat und eigentlich will, dass das Spiel sofort losgeht“, erklärte Ole Werner. „Es zeigt, wie sehr die Menschen mit uns fiebern und uns diesen Erfolg wünschen.“

Wenn alles gutgeht, dann dürfte hinterher mit ziemlicher Sicherheit davon gesprochen werden, dass Werder Bremen von der ganzen Stadt in Richtung Aufstieg getragen wurde. Doch was so einfach klingt, ist halt auch weiterhin mit viel Arbeit verbunden. Da mag es noch so schön klingen, dass es für Gegner Holstein Kiel nach dem nahezu perfekten Klassenerhalt um nicht mehr viel geht. „Es kann Fluch und Segen zugleich sein, wenn eine Mannschaft nicht mehr diesen ganz großen Druck verspürt“, warnte etwa Clemens Fritz, Werders Leiter Profifußball. „Von daher ist es umso wichtiger, dass wir die Situation richtig einschätzen.“

Auch Ole Werner rechnet fest damit, dass seine Spieler abermals bis an die Grenze oder darüber hinaus werden gehen müssen. „Holstein Kiel wird sich sicherlich nicht verstecken, hat viel Erfahrung auf dem Platz. Da kommt eine variable Mannschaft auf uns zu, die ihre Stärken im Ballbesitz suchen wird“, zählte er auf. „Wir müssen daher von der Schärfe her an das anknüpfen, was wir in der letzten Woche gegen Schalke gezeigt haben.“

Und wer sollte besser Bescheid wissen als er, was die „Störche“ so können? Jahrelang war Ole Werner selbst dort im Einsatz. „Das ist der Verein, bei dem ich einen großen Teil meiner Laufbahn sowohl als Spieler als auch als Trainer verbracht habe. Diese Zeit und dieser Verein haben mich geprägt, dort habe ich die Dinge gelernt, die ich heute anwende“, schilderte er. Aber ob das wirklich ein Vorteil für Werder Bremen ist? „Ich kenne sicherlich viele Einzelspieler und generell die Arbeitsweise im Verein. Aber ich kenne den Trainer (Marcel Rapp, Anm. d. Red.) nicht genug, insofern mag es sogar so sein, dass eher in Kiel viele Personen wissen, wie wir arbeiten und Fußball spielen wollen.“

Vor knapp einem Jahr war der Coach des SV Werder Bremen tabellarisch schon einmal in einer vergleichbaren Situation. Nach einer insgesamt starken Saison träumten er und seine Kieler lange vom Aufstieg in die 1. Bundesliga, ehe doch noch die große Enttäuschung kam. Passieren soll ihm das nicht noch einmal. Der 33-Jährige baut bei allen Parallelen aber auch darauf, dass es wesentliche Unterschiede gibt. „Die Situationen sind insofern nicht zu vergleichen, da wir einen Spielrhythmus und ausgeglichene Wettbewerbsbedingungen haben, weil keine Teams in Mannschaftsquarantäne sind“, erklärte er. „Damals ging es eigentlich nur noch darum, wie man sich innerhalb von zwei Tagen auf ein Spiel vorbereitet und genug Leute zusammenkratzt, die annähernd 90 Minuten laufen können.“

Die Corona-Pandemie hatte den Club von der Förde seinerzeit wie keinen zweiten in Deutschland erwischt, mehrmals musste der komplette Kader in die Isolation. Im Saisonendspurt gab es so ein Mammutprogramm aus Nachholspielen und regulären Partien, was lange gutging, ehe in der Relegation doch die Puste fehlte.
