The wild hunt begins: The children's races - here the start of the female U8, which completed 350 meters - were also the crowd pullers at the 2022 run.

After a long Corona break, the Weilheimer Aulauf could take place again in the usual format.

But before it started on Sunday, the organizers needed strong nerves.

Weilheim - Such a wet meadow is treacherous, especially if you want to run particularly fast on it.

For Linja Augst, it even becomes a stumbling block.

A few meters after the start of the 800-meter race, the U10 athlete from TSV Peiting stumbles in the crowd and even lands on the grass.

But Augst is not discouraged, she's back on her feet in no time and has overtaken a few other athletes a little later.

Isaac Kosgei from Linz wins the 10-kilometer race at the outrun

Fighting spirit was an attribute that was in demand at the 86th run of TSV Weilheim on May 1st.

The organizers also had to show nerves of steel.

With a lot of forbearance, the fact that the spray-painted trail markings on the routes were scratched away during the free night can pass as a silly prank.

But a cut through the main power cable was no longer fun at all, but a crime.

Cut power cord causes trouble

The on-call service of the Stadtwerke provided a remedy.

Their short-term use "was the finest", praised TSV athletics boss Michael Horstmann.

Various helpers were also absent due to Corona.

"Those who are there work for two," said Horstmann.

Despite the difficulties, the competitions and award ceremonies went on schedule.

Horstmann was satisfied with the response – there were around 390 pre-registrations.

"Something's going on," he said, looking around the grounds.

Two athletes who started in Weilheim for the first time won the ten-kilometer run: Natalie Rauh (TV Kempten) and Isaac Kosgei from Linz (Austria).

Rauh crossed the finish line at the Auweiher after 41:02 minutes.

"It's not a personal best, but it was okay for the track," said the 25-year-old from Wildpoldsried.

She "liked the course on the Ammer very much".

The winner of the men completed the race "as a training", as he said with a smile.

Isaac Kosgei – 40 years old, from Kenya, living in Linz and two-time Austrian marathon champion – had won the M40 class the day before at the Austrian state championships in Attnang over 10 kilometers in eighth place overall (31:19).

At the outrun, 34:12 minutes was enough for a sovereign victory.

"The time is okay," Kosgei said.

Since 2010 there has been a 10 kilometer run, so far there has only been a faster winning time three times.

The record so far is held by Daniel Lenz (Murnau) with 32:53 minutes (run twelve years ago).

The fastest men over 10 kilometers: Isaac Kosgei (left) won with a remarkable 34:12 minutes.

Stefan Fichtl (37:11) from Hohenfurch was second.

Behind Kosgei, a trio fought for the remaining places.

Hohenfurcher Stefan Fichtl (Team Schönegger Käse Alm) finally prevailed and finished second with 37:11 minutes ahead of Laurens Kölpin (37:37) from Munich and Martin Echtler (37:42) from TSV Peiting.

Two weeks ago, when he completed the course in training, he was a lot faster, said Fichtl.

In the duel for second place, however, a considerable amount of time was used, which had an impact on the pace.

Fichtl was completely satisfied with his placement: Kosgei was in a different league, "Second place is optimal for me from that perspective".

Katharina Geiger completes her first ever competition at Aulauf

An aspirant for victory in the women's category was unlucky: Melanie Albrecht from Wallgau, who had already won the Gögerl Trail this year, had an asthma attack on the route and had to give up.

"I was actually in a good mood," said the 26-year-old, who had already won the open-air race in 2016 and 2019.

On the other hand, Katharina Geiger was absolutely delighted on Sunday – even if she was far from a top place.

The 36-year-old from Wessobrunn completed her first competition ever.

Geiger ran the ten kilometers in 1:08:07 hours.

They all achieved their goals: "I stayed under 1:10 hours and I didn't finish last," said Geiger happily.

For 34 years "I didn't do any sport at all".

In the first Corona lockdown she started running.

The beginning was difficult: "I ran 50 meters, then walked two kilometers." But the mother of two stuck to it.

This January, "I ran four kilometers in a row for the first time."

Until yesterday, Geiger had completed the ten-kilometer distance four times.

There was a program in the Au for around six hours.

The children in particular were cheered on in their runs over 350 meters and 800 meters.

In the Nordic Walkers, Wolfgang Reichl (Post SV Weilheim/33:18) and Ulrike Kleer (Munich/36:51) were the first to cross the finish line.

The relays formed the conclusion.

The "Rolling Stones" won over 4 x 800 meters (11:39 / Samuel Hagenauer, Emil Ganguin, Patrick Molnar, Maximilian Daniker).
