In 2022 he was slowed down by a corona disease and injuries.

Interesting facts about Jannik Sinner's career and private life.

Munich – Jannik Sinner, born in Innichen on August 16, 2001, is a multi-talent: the South Tyrolean speaks German, Italian and English in addition to his native language.

He came to his career as a tennis pro via detours.

In addition to tennis, he was also very successful in skiing as a child: in 2008 he won the title of Italian giant slalom champion and in 2012 the title of vice-Italian champion.

The center of his life is Bordighera on the Ligurian coast.

Because at the age of 14 he began to work intensively on his tennis career at the Piatti Tennis Training Center in the tennis academy of Riccardo Piatti, who has already worked with Ivan Ljubicic, Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic.

2018, aged 17,

he played his first ITF tournaments and reached his first final at this level in the same year.

Since October 28, 2019, Sinner has been among the top 100 in the ATP world rankings, and on November 1, 2021, his name appeared among the ten best players in the world for the first time.

The Italian young star keeps his private life rather covered.

Jannik Sinner – his career

Jannik Sinner started working with Riccardo Piatti at the age of 13.

The reason for this: "I wanted to concentrate more on tennis because the tennis competition lasts longer than a minute and a half like skiing - that appealed to me".

At Piatti's tennis academy in Bordighera, he initially trained for up to seven hours a day.

Sometimes Novak Djokovic was one of his prominent training partners.

The decision "for a tennis career" and "against a skiing career" should have been the right one: 2019 began for the Italian with his first title win at the Challenger in Bergamo, Italy.

A week later he won the final of the ITF tournament in Trento, where he defeated Germany's Jeremy Jahn 6-3, 6-4.

Again in Italy, his second ITF title followed just three weeks later:

Jannik Sinner – his breakthrough

In August 2019, Sinner won his second Challenger title in Kentucky.

In the following week, Sinner qualified for the main draw of the US Open for the first time.

Overall, 2019 was a very successful year: With victories over Kamil Majchrzak, Gael Monfils and Frances Tiafoe, Jannik Sinner fought his way into the first semi-final of his career in Antwerp, where he met Stan Wawrinka and lost in straight sets.

On the way there he had defeated Gael Monfils, among others.

In October 2019, the Italian was among the top 100 players in the world for the first time.

At the NextGenATP final, Jannik Sinner triumphed in his home country of Italy in 2019.

In the final he prevailed against Alex de Minaur.

The reward for the hard work:

  • At the Australian Open in 2020, the young Italian recorded his first win in a Grand Slam tournament.

  • In 2021, Sinner won the ATP 250 tournament in Melbourne.

  • At the beginning of 2022, Sinner and his trainer Riccardo Piatti announced their separation.

Since then, Sinner has been coached by Simone Vagnozzi.

  • The current season has not yet gone according to plan:

in Indian Wells he had to retire due to illness and Sinner was also unable to finish the Miami Open.

A blister on the sole of his foot bothered the 20-year-old so much that he had to retire in the quarter-finals.

Jannik Sinner – his private life

Since September 2020, the Italian influencer Maria Braccini, who is one year older, has been Jannik Sinner's girlfriend.

"She is the best person to walk this path with me," said Sinner in an interview with

Gazzetta dello Sport

in spring .

However, Jannik Sinner has kept his private life rather covered to this day, photos on social media were rather rare: "Maria and I are two young people who are having a good time together," he said at the time.

"Why should we share that with everyone?" What became known anyway: After almost a year, Sinner and Braccini officially ended their relationship.

Jannik Sinner – not everyone knows that about the young star

  • The Italian newspaper Corriere de la Sera gave him his nickname “The Red Baron” because of his red hair.

  • Sinner was on skis at the age of three and was one of the best skiers in Italy as a child.

    His specialty: giant slalom.

"Besides, I was also in the football club."

  • Tennis only became more important at the age of nine, Jannik Sinner trained more intensively and switched to the South Tyrolean trainer Heribert Mayr.

  • An anecdote from Jannik Sinner's childhood: According to Heribert Mayr, Sinner played tennis as a boy in the living room at home and always wanted to hit the light switch: "He did it until the light kept going on and off."
