The 118-time German ex-national player Babett Peter ends her football career.
"An unforgettable journey comes to an end for me this summer," wrote the Real Madrid captain on Instagram.
She looks back "proudly on what has been achieved," wrote Peter, and "thanks to football that I was able to realize and live all my dreams."
The 33-year-old defender wants to complete her master's degree in sports business in October and then plans to work in US women's soccer, she was quoted as saying in an interview in the "Frankfurter Rundschau".
She did not initially give any further details.
Her partner, with whom she has a son, already lives in the USA and works there as an assistant coach in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
Peter's wish is to help shape women's football in Germany "at management level" in a few years' time.

In 2019, Peter ended her DFB career after 118 international matches.
In addition to Olympic gold in 2016, she also won the World Championships (2007) and European Championships (2009).
