TSV Taufkirchen is new to competitive sport.

170 participants are at the first district gymnastics festival since 2019.

The titles against Steinheuer and Bauer.

Dorfen - No error analysis, no clever advice - sometimes the trainer just has to be there.

Sigrid Wiedenhofer sits on the hall floor and buries little Theresa Miesl under her arms.

She just lets the girl sob in the little comfort cave.

The eight-year-old from TSV Dorfen had just involuntarily descended from the balance beam.

"It can happen," says the trainer in a soft voice.

A minute or two of rest, then the young gymnast has recovered and talks – hesitantly at first, then getting faster and faster – what she enjoys about this sport so much.

That she loves the high bar, for example, “because you can swing nicely there”.

And then she already has three friends around her.

Let's move on, next device!

After a two-year break, the Erdinger district gymnastics festival is taking place again.

A lot of girls, some boys scurry through the sports hall of the elementary and middle school in Dorfen.

There are 170 participants in total.

"We didn't expect that," says Wiedenhofer, department head at TSV Dorfen.

"100 would have been a good number."

But the gymnastics clubs in the district gratefully accepted the offer from TSV Dorfen.

TSV Erding, SpVgg Altenerding, FC Forstern - and for the first time TSV Taufkirchen.

This is due to Christina Holler, a trainer who moved to the Vilstal from Mitterteich in Franconia and has been building up a gymnastics department at TSV Taufkirchen since September last year.

36 children are enthusiastic, says Holler and predicts that it will probably not be possible to get top places this time.

"Because we're just not ready for that yet.

You start with low exercises,” she explains.

"But the girls have already seen the difficult things here and told me that we should practice on Monday," she says with a smile.

Body tension in all gymnastics and life situations.

Nelia Korb masters this with flying colors.

And while the jury looks at her, the forester has our cameraman in her sights.

Ambition, of course, is part of sport.

Each later the evening, the more astonishing the achievements become.

Lea Steinheuer from TSV Erding, for example, does gymnastics at the highest level of difficulty on the floor.

Flick flack, forward somersault – everything in the program and perfectly executed.

In the end, she becomes district champion with the highest number of points.

Alexander Bauer from TSV Dorfen is the best among the young male gymnasts.

Wiedenhofer is also impressed by the two and by a number of other performances on floor, vault, balance beam, horizontal bar, parallel bars and uneven bars - pommel horse and rings are not part of the competition at district and district level.

But are the performances still as good as they were two years ago?

During the break caused by the pandemic, some trainers had doubted this.

Wiedenhofer does not want to judge that at all.

"That's not what today is about.

The important thing is to have fun and that nobody gets hurt.”

In fact, during the course of the day one gymnast will pull a slight fiber tear, another has twisted her ankle while doing floor exercises.

"But both of them finished their exercises," says Wiedenhofer.

Otherwise everything went smoothly.

"We just ran out of food in the end," she says.

Strength and elegance remain the be-all and end-all in gymnastics. This is demonstrated here by Alexander Bauer, who was later crowned district champion.

Makes you hungry, this sport that fascinates everyone.

Amelie Ropertz (10) from Dorfen particularly loves floor exercises, Annika Freitag (9) is an avid jumper, and Enna Fleischmann (11) from TSV Erding is already looking forward to the fact that she will one day be able to perfectly master fliclac and handstand rollover.

The girls accept minor accidents.

Mia Hehlmann says she's already bruised her hip, but that wouldn't stop her from training twice a week - especially on the horizontal bar, her favorite piece of equipment.

"But I also think the competition is cool," she says.

"You can see what the other clubs can do." Yes, she emphasizes, she would like to finish first or second.

What is still important apart from victory and fun: The time of tight gymnastics clothes is coming to an end.

At the Artistic Gymnastics European Championships in Basel, the top German athlete Sarah Voss caused a stir because she did her exercises in a long leotard instead of a tight gymnastics outfit.

According to Doris Corsten, in Dorfen around 80 percent wear appropriate clothing, which is now also recognized by the German Gymnastics Association.

The trainer of TSV Erding is happy about this sign.

That also fits the mood on this day, when everyone is just happy that competitions are taking place again, where the trophies and medals donated by the Sparkasse and the VR-Bank should not be missing, as well as the glass trophies donated by the district for district champions and district champion.

Klaus Kellner, who is not only a sports icon from Dorfen, but also chairman of the gymnastics district of Upper Bavaria, was allowed to hand it over.

And what's even more fun than grades and placements: the trampoline show, which the Dorfen gymnastics team celebrated together with a former Erdinger gymnast.

Theresa Miesl's eyes must have shone with the many twists, somersaults and double somersaults.

The weaning at the "Zitterbalken" (quote Wiedenhofer) is long forgotten.

It is quite possible that she will soon be part of such a show:
