However, the 1. FC Köln fan only achieved the final media breakthrough in 2021 at the fourth Grand Slam held in New York: At the US Open, Otte qualified through to the round of 16.

But that's not all: At the end of last season, Oscar Otte won three tournaments at the second highest level, the Challenger Tour, collected valuable points and confirmed his good form.

Oscar Otte – the entertainer

Oscar Otte then delivered the match of his life in Wimbledon in 2021: In the second round he lost to Andy Murray 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6, 2: 6 despite a strong performance.

Otte had played his way into the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament for the first time through qualification and challenged the 34-year-old Scotsman to an exciting match.

A highlight of the duel was Otte's reaction after a slip.

The man from Cologne lay casually on his side and pretended to smoke a cigarette or a joint.

Otte caused another big smile in the media when he asked the referee in the first set to get him other shorts because his were too big.

He actually received new shorts and even won two of the five sets.

His “pants problem” in retrospect:

"The laundry service in the hotel didn't work that well.

So I only had pants with me.

It kept slipping up during the match.

I don't even know exactly why.

So I asked the referee for replacement pants.

Then they brought me two, but one was four times as big and would have gotten over my knees.

The other had a sponsor's logo sewn on, I couldn't have played with that either.

So I had to keep my pants on.

Luckily, at some point it stopped sliding up.”
