The continued existence of the HSG Würm-Mitte is secured. After a break of more than 20 years, DJK Würmtal is back in the handball syndicate with TSV Gräfelfing.

The continued existence of the HSG Würm-Mitte is secured.

After a break of more than 20 years, DJK Würmtal is back in the handball syndicate with TSV Gräfelfing.

Würmtal – Now it's official: There will be top-class handball in the Würmtal in the coming season as well.

The DJK Würmtal becomes a new partner of the TSV Gräfelfing and thus ensures the continued existence of the handball game community (HSG) Würm-Mitte.

The signing of the contract for the new HSG took place yesterday evening in the premises of the DJK on Georgenstrasse in Planegg.

The relief is not only great for Benedikt Waterloo, the long-standing chairman of the Gräfelfingen handball department and head of the HSG.

“A great weight falls from our hearts.

It was unclear for a long time and now we are very happy that it worked out,” says Waterloo.

DJK President Martin Götz is also satisfied: "We are happy that handball is continuing in the Würmtal and we are approaching it positively."

TSV Gräfelfing has been the sole sponsor of the HSG Würm-Mitte for a year

The HSG Würm-Mitte was founded in 1986 as a joint project of the clubs TSV Gräfelfing, TV Planegg-Krailling and DJK Würmtal.

However, the DJK got out again in the mid-1990s.

After TV Planegg-Krailling also ended the cooperation in 2021, TSV Gräfelfing is the sole sponsor of the HSG in the current season, which plays particularly well in the female area (3rd league women, youth federal league A-Juniors).

We kept the HSG alive.

Martin Götz, President of the DJK Würmtal

However, this cannot become permanent, as TSV President Christoph Göbel made clear about a year ago.

Not only does the issue of costs play a role, but also the use of the Planegger gyms, on which Würm-Mitte with its numerous handball teams is dependent.

"Without Planegg it would have been very difficult," says Waterloo.

Götz formulates it even more clearly.

He says: "We kept the HSG alive."

HSG cooperation: DJK Würmtal hopes to use times in Gräfelfing

After Göbel's request, Götz basically signaled readiness, but at the same time warned against excessive costs for his club.

After all, TV Planegg-Krailling justified its exit primarily with the financial situation.

Some DJK members were also skeptical at their association's annual meeting in autumn.

But the DJK president not only wants to keep handball alive in the Würmtal, but also hopes that the club will give his club "a foot in the door to Gräfelfing" (Götz).

Specifically, this means usage times in the new Gräfelfingen school and sports center currently under construction, especially in the indoor swimming pool.

Essential special subsidy from the municipality of Planegg for DJK Würmtal

In addition, the DJK is now getting some new members: The approximately 50 handball players from Planegg, Martinsried and Krailling are to officially switch from TSV Gräfelfing to DJK Würmtal.

"And maybe one or the other will stay with the DJK if they stop playing handball and want to try another sport," says Götz.

Another important building block on the way to an agreement was the support of the financing by the municipality of Planegg with a special subsidy of 10,000 euros.

New HSG Würm-Mitte wants to push sponsorship

"We now have to set up a new structure and see that the organization works well," announced Waterloo.

He adds: "In the medium term, it should do something for both clubs.

We also have to position ourselves better financially for this.”

Götz sees it similarly.

For him, for example, the possibilities in the area of sponsoring are far from exhausted.

He thinks: "There are many solvent companies in Gräfelfing that could support a third division handball team."

Rescue of the HSG Würm-Mitte: motivation boost for Würmtal wildcats?

However, it is still unclear whether the first women's team at HSG Würm-Mitte will also compete in the third division next season.

Just like the first men in the state league, the team of trainer Miriam Hirsch, the Würmtaler Wildkatzen, is currently fighting to stay in the league.

Götz, for whom the attention to the performance of the handball teams has already increased significantly, is now hoping for a signal at the end of the season: "Maybe the agreement will give a boost in motivation.
